China ramps up stimulus to guard economy from changes 'unseen in a century'​

BEIJING, March 5 (Reuters) - China unlocked more fiscal stimulus on Wednesday, promising greater efforts to support consumption and cushion the impact of an escalating trade war with the United States on an economy that Beijing is determined to grow by another 5%-or-so this year.​

Premier Li Qiang, in a speech at the opening of the annual meeting of China's parliament, warned that "changes unseen in a century are unfolding across the world at a faster pace". --Reuters​

In the US businesses are closing and people are being laid off; China makes moves to sustain it's citizens. When Trump was asked about truckers and Port workers without work, he responded, "That means we lose less money ... when you say it slowed down, that's a good thing, not a bad thing." Showing one more time he has no idea what trade means. The US GDP shrunk and China's rose. Why did it increase? So may US companies ordered ahead of Trump's insanity.

I believe after that "deal" tariffs are still up on UK products (though not nearly as high as last week) and some of the other elements (like meat imports) are getting "no, that's not actually going to happen" reactions to required changes in UK regulations from Mr. Starmer and his allies.

Recall last month when Trump sat in the oval office and claimed China is reaching out to them.
China quickly responded that is just more Trump nonsense.
They said nothing will happen till Trump backed off the escalated tariffs rates.
This announcement is about backed offed tariffs and talks.
In other words, exactly what China asked.

Yes, perhaps I'm missing something, but this seems like a complete capitulation by Trump to the Chinese. Once again, I guess we'll see what has happened at the end of this 90 days.

trouble is, will it be in time? It will take a month for new stock to arrive, some stores stocked up, but it's going to be a month with little trade at the ports that are currently empty right now.

Like the UK "deal" before it, Trump is still imposing an arbitrary 10-30% import tax on American importers that was not there before this nonsense started.

should add that stores have been saying that even 30% could still hurt trade, it won't be as bad, but still going to cause some damage.

Instead, the US is cancelling tariffs after one month (and the other ones were postponed much earlier, in days).

I'm very curious as well. Did stores order enough extra stock so that this is a big nothingburger. Or will there be empty shelves for a week or two in some parts of the country.

If I were "negotiating" with Donald Trump I would take him for every penny he has and make him throw in his gaudy resort/house just for bonus. He should read that 1980s book on deals by Tony Schwartz.
