  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do any of you follow MAGA theology?

Observe the reactions to the phrase "Make America Great Again." One upon a time, Republicans and Democrats would argue just how to make America great again. Now, there's a lot of contention on the Left that America was never great to begin with.
The product of rampant unchecked progressive globalism.

I think MAGA is a slogan that was copied from Ronald Reagan. The media, with all the innuendos and the way they paint people who vote for him, is where all this garbage comes from. If you notice, left-wing media loves to place labels and call names to people who don't agree with them.

"For those without skills, well find a way to help them get skills. For those without job opportunities, well stimulate new opportunities, particularly in the inner cities where they live. For those who have abandoned hope, well restore hope and well welcome them into a great national crusade to make America great again!" <------------ Maybe Trump was listening when he was a young man.

I could only find one passage.

"Thou shalt allowest Trump, yeah the whole of MAGA, to smite thee in the manner of Job with trials and tribulations and render thy nation barron for to fulfill the commandment to owneth thy Libs."

I found another passage, thou shalt hate him with all thy heart, because thou art the least civilized animal in the animal kingdom. Smite the other tribe like the devil did with Job.

I didn't know Jussie Smolett was a MAGA Republican. He was probably trying to earn his way into MAGA heaven, a place formally known as Gaza (work in progress).

Some people are better at working scams, my wife's sister was very good making a living collecting settlements from "falling" until she died last year, ironically from falling down the stairs in her house.

I admit, I’m not up on it but I’m curious if any of you are aware of it and what it means. It sounds completely ridiculous to me. Nobody I know worships Trump or have replaced Jesus’ teachings with some sort of man made religion that idolizes and worships Trump.

I can find items discussing MAGA theology but nothing about who coined it and any real examples of people that supposedly follow this new cult. So I’m curious if any of you have seen outright examples of this so-called theology. Thanks!
MAGA isn’t a theology, it’s an ideology. It has nothing to do with theology. It simply means Make America Great Again.

I agree but they are calling it theology. It helps with their accusations of idol worship and Trump.

Thankfully I don't go to that church. I prefer a church that you can attend anywhere in the world and know exactly what's going on.

No, that's not what it is about. The references to "MAGA theology" seem to come primarily from Christian critics of churches and religious writers that have blended "MAGA political ideology" in to their churches. "Worship" of Trump seems to be at most a minor component. It seems to be found primarily in evangelical churches and is an extension or evolution of exisiting integration of conservative political ideologies into the focus of churches. You may find it useful to read some criticism of it starting from a search on "MAGA theology". It seems a useful term for the merged theology and politics of some churches and one we can keep meaningful if we limit our usage of the term.

Well that certainly does not sound mainstream even on Christian circles. It sounds more like some strange offshoot cult. I’ve not heard any Christian speak of taking any sort of dominance over society. We are to be a light in a dark world and want to take our place in the public square. Everyone influences society but dominance is not something that is going to happen. This has nothing to do with so-called Trump theology annd worship imo. There have been fringe groups from the beginning. Before Trump.
It has become an endtime view for quite a few charismatics. They are looking to set up a kingdom here on earth, This explains their more recent involvement in politics, media and education. Some just see it as good policy, others see it as God's will to dictate to society. It is not formal but many charismatic leaders accept it.

I think it would be very hard to characterize the theology of those Christians who abandon the Great Commission in order to seek political power.

It certainly was never the America described by hacks like David Barton and the Hillsdale college crowd, yet I have no trouble being a patriot. The toxic myth of American Exceptionalism describes a country I could never be proud of.
While I don't know anyone who worship Trump, I won't go so far as to say no one worships Trump. If we do some digging, we'll likely find someone worshiped every presidential candidate. Yet even then MAGA doesn't have a theology. It's a political statement.
A political statement made by the Right in Jesus' name.

They do not abandon the great Commission. Much of the idea stems from the Seven Mountain mandates, "The Seven Mountain Mandate is a dominionist movement within evangelical Christianity that proposes Christians should influence seven key societal "mountains": religion, family, education, government, media, arts & entertainment, and business. The goal is to establish a Christian worldview in these areas to hasten the return of Jesus Christ

There is nothing wrong with the influence. However, it assumes lots of stuff about the end times that many would not accept.

Well he allows it is my understanding. I can’t imagine Him actually appointing some in leadership positions throughout history.
I wonder if God establishes having authority structures in society but does not necessarily appoint the individuals, although he allows them as He has given mankind free will. Just a thought - of course I may be wrong. Some He definitely appointed, such as King David, though.
"There is NO authority except that which GOD has established."

Edit for clarification: establishing is not anointing.
That helps clarify it a bit, thanks.
