  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How come we can't get rid of lobbyists?
Because lobbying is just political speech. Writing a letter to your congressman is lobbying. Your preferred charity sending their director to talk to your senator is lobbying. You basically can't have a representative democracy without it.

Makes sense. I guess we have to have it then. I don't like it because every American has representation, but sometimes it seems that it doesn't benefit the people when corporations lobby. But I get you.

There are certainly problems with how the current system works, but to me, lobbyists are analogous to lawyers: you're essentially hiring somebody to be your proxy to advocate for you in a venue in which you'd be allowed to advocate for yourself, but which requires some specific knowledge or access (which you probably don't possess) in order to be successful. In both cases, spending more money often equates to better outcomes, which means that the rich can often win just by outspending the poor. But that weakness in the legal system doesn't mean we should get rid of courts or lawyers altogether; it means we need to structure things in a way that provides protection against that sort of manipulation. Ditto for lobbying.

And people wonder where Sovereign Citizens get their crack ball ideas from.
I'm not sure where they get their ideas, but now I know where they get their license plates... Walmart
