  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'd rather obey God than men.
Paul was a man. A first century man, living in the Mediterranean region. If he saw what you are consuming, how you are living and how you look like, he would give you probably the same advice as I do.

Your opinions/beliefs are so extreme that without knowing your background, there is no point.
This is the internet, so background doesn't matter. It's for discussion.

So anyway, according to the teachings of Christianity. Drinking wine is okay. The main danger of forbidding consumption is being cut off from the spiritual connection with God. It's fine to restrict yourself, but restricting others is a no no.

Personally, I don't drink wine.

Instead of opinions, let us use some facts:

The risk of developing cancer increases substantially the more alcohol is consumed. However, latest available data indicate that half of all alcohol-attributable cancers in the WHO European Region are caused by “light” and “moderate” alcohol consumption – less than 1.5 litres of wine or less than 3.5 litres of beer or less than 450 millilitres of spirits per week.

Nope, wine, in moderation, is good for you...fact.

I usually have some in my bowl at the weekend!!!

Alcohol is really good in moderation when people take life too seriously. Most likely (without wine) they'll die of a heart attack before developing cancer.

Since everything basically gives you cancer nowadays, not a valid argument.

Alcohol is really important when the economy is bad. Why?

Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to the bitter in soul. Let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. (Proverbs 31:6&7)

Therefore, biblically approved.

Recommending drinking alcohol to disadvantaged communities is a terrible idea. Socially, economically and regarding health. Poor people are more sick and dying younger.
