  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

President Donald Trump has pardoned a former Republican Las Vegas City Council member convicted last year of using money meant to honor a slain police officer for plastic surgery, rent and her daughter’s wedding - one of several pardons the president has granted to his supporters since the start of his second term in office.
Michele Fiore - whom outlets and pundits dubbed “Lady Trump” for her gun-toting imagery and vociferous brand of conservatism - was found guilty in October on six counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She faced up to 140 years in prison......
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, a Democrat, criticized Trump’s pardon, writing on X: “Donald Trump’s blatant disregard for law enforcement is sickening, and pardoning someone who stole from a police memorial fund is a disgrace.”
“As Nevada’s top cop, I believe there’s no room for reprieve when it comes to betraying the families of fallen officers,” Ford added.
The pardon demonstrates a disregard for police officers and their families. Her lawyer pretends she was vindicated, but she wasn't.
I shouldn't be surprised that Trump pardoned this person.

The power of the presidential pardon should be either all together removed, or adhered solely by the requirements of the Pardon Office.
Because it is just being wrongly abused no matter which president.

What's the point of having law, if the president breaks them and pardons his friends, that breaks his kind of laws. And goes after people, that's done nothing wrong. As long as Trump is president, know body should obey laws.

I disagree with and denounce this pardon.
The problem is: this isnt just a policy idea that somehow went wrong. Its an act for which all the moral issues were laid out on the table for the president to see and evaluate ahead of time. Then he did it anyway. What kind of man does that?

I agree.

Executive orders should have checks and balances too. Congress should find a way to limit the power of executive orders. Since President Obama, presidents have used executive orders as a method to bypass Congress and gain political points.

Congress could easily limit the power of executive orders, since they are the ones that gave it to Presidents. The issue seems to be, if they take the power back then Congress will actually have to work at governing the country, not just constantly run for re-election (and both sides are guilty of this).

Unfortunately, the power of the pardon was given to the President in the Constitution, so it would require a Constitutional Amendment to add much in the way of limits to that power.
