  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump admin. concedes Maryland man from El Salvador was mistakenly deported/sent to mega prison - shrugs 'nothing can be done' [ETA: oh but it can!]

And El Salvador says, "no deal." Then what?
Then they are in violation of their extradition treaty and we start ratcheting up the economic and diplomatic pressure. From there we start looking at rendition options. You want to stop acting like this is an impossible situation and start dealing with what is really going on?

We all know the answer to that question, it's been painfully obvious for a while now in this thread. I don't know what's gained from making oneself look thoughtless though, but here we are.

El Salvador then says, "No deal." Then what?
El Salvador then says "ok". Then what? Situation solved and actual legal proceedings can begin.
What? You think the "deal maker" Trump can't make a deal like he made with Romania? Oh ye of little faith, I think this sort of disrespect and disbelief in your leader calls for a visit by ICE and a trip to El Salvador, clearly you're spreading antidemocratic and anti-Trump sentiments here.

I don't think the extradition treaty works like that. Which law listed in Article II of the treaty did Garcia violate to warrant his extradition back to the united states?

So I take it that is a no on returning to reality? OK. You have fun in your fantasy world where the most powerful country the world have ever known is incapable of returning a person it illegally sent to a concentration camp.

So I take it you are not going to answer the question and resort to insults because the treaty doesn't apply to Garcia?

No insult intended. If you felt insulted then my apologies.

That said, let us deal with reality. Trump is not trying to bring this individual back.

Perhaps Donald should just take back the $6M he pad El Salvador to take the prisoners?

How did Donald manage to get the Tate bros. back?

This is just absurd.

El Salv is a vendor of services and we are the client here. If we in good faith ask for this tiny favor that costs them literally nothing, of course they'll comply for the sake of good relations.

The problem is Trump wont ask in good faith.

It depends on what your definition of "illegally" is.

Let me draw this out in crayon. THE BALL IS NOT IN TRUMP'S COURT. El Salvador holds all the cards regarding Garcia. No judge can change that...period. Good night.
Yes it is Trump hands. El Salvador is getting 6 million from America, for keeping these people locked up. They want the money and they will say what ever Trump wants them to say. I don't believe this was an accident at all. Its just an excuse to try to make Trumps people happy. So, when ever someone, that shouldn't be sent back. The will sent who ever they want. And lie about it.

That’s a great comparison. He can get back somebody credibly accused of human trafficking and rape, but not somebody deported through a “mistake”.

The brothers were in prison for two years, Garcia just a short time.
