  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump expected to sign executive order making English the official US language

The Great Gatsby. Classic American literature. Used in multiple contexts with multiple intents, but generally used to refer to another dismissively and passively. I dropped the “old” prefix because I thought you’d get offended.

Again, I’m not seeing where English being made the national language is going to be as helpful to you as you think it will be.

Then I highly recommend you reread the thread and get back to me later.

I’ve read it, thanks, dude.

Dude, referencing “The Big Lebowski,” in case it comes up. Dismissive and passive, as opposed to Dude or The Dude (or El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing), which is formal respectful.

Before they make English the national language, they should change the name of the language from "English" to "American". :)
Do not give them any ideas.

It needs to be real American English. I'm tired of "colour" "maths" and "cheque". This is what happens when DEI runs wild.
Colour, behaviour, cheque etc are English. "American English" is not an official language, it is a dialect of English. If he wants to make English the US's official language, everyone will need to get used to colour, behaviour, and cheque among other phases/spellings.

A meme, referring to Jan Brady. Marcia answers Jan dismissively in the affirmative, then goes back to what she was doing. Commonly used when one doesn’t take what another is saying seriously.
So saying men have penises and women have vaginas isn’t seriously?

Last time I checked that’s how biology worked.

Yay! Science wins

If somebody was physically male and said they felt genetically other or neither, numerous cultures recognized it, and vice versa.

That is meaningless. Just because numerous cultures recognized people had an issue doesn't mean. They actually thought of them as the opposite sex.
In Oaxaca, if somebody said "I have a penis but internally I feel female," they didn't say "Hey now, we know what a man is and you have a penis so you are a man." They were recognized as other-gendered and assumed the societal role of a woman.

That's not true. They are not considered women. They don't consider themselves as women.

Muxes, a group long recognized within the indigenous Zapotec people of Mexico, are often referred to as a third gender. Embodying characteristics of both men and women, their existence challenges the gender binary that is so deeply entrenched in Western society.

“We are people of two spirits,” Felina Santiago says in the Oaxaca episode of “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico.” “We are the duality, neither man nor woman. You are neither less nor more.”

Various societies in modern-day Madagascar, Egypt, Mexico, United States, China, Indonesia... They all had acceptance, though not scientific understanding, of a non binary gender. Muslims used to recognize five genders.

Everyone recognizes that transgender people exist. Why wouldn't we. They are all over the place. But that doesn't mean they are actually the opposite sex. It means they are confused. And if they are ill enough they start undergoing treatments to get as close to the opposite sex as they can. But they are not. A man is never a woman and a woman is never a man. They have a mental illness. It's no different than being bi-polar or having schizophrenia. Things like that happen within the human species.

We all recognize that. However not everyone who claims to be transgender is actually transgender. We actually have no way of really knowing if someone is or isnt. If we really could tell Affirmative Care wouldn't exist. Becauae Affirmative Care never questions whether someone is or isn't. It accepts and affirms that someone is.

The real question is what do we do about it? If someone says they are trans, what is the requirement of the rest of us.

There really are only two genders, male and female. Being trans isn't seen as a third gender.

Indeed. The whole trans delusion is a mental illness. It's sad people are encouraging their fantasy. it does nothing but harm.

Indeed. American English is different from British English. We have slangs that the British find offensive and vice versa. Language just develops over time. Unless the language is dead, such as Latin or Aramaic. That's a fact.

I wonder they still have masculine and feminine words in French.
The Romance languages have masculine and feminine nouns. That includes French as well as Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian. It doesn't mean the nouns are indeed a man or a woman. Some people are just confused by it.

Yet, in these languages, they have specific modifications to word dependent on biological sex. For example, Latina vs. Latino. Of course that is Spanish, not French. But you get the point.

I have one of those plastic kiddie pools in my backyard. I've renamed it Trump Pond. Okay I didn't rename it because it didn't have a name before, but now it's Trump Pond.
You should call it the Gulf of America.

Google AI:

'Some also use the "-e" ending for nouns and adjectives, such as "amigue" instead of "amigo/amiga" (friend).'

So your example would be 'Latine' (prounced Lateen-eh).
