And in return the USA ~might~ defend the area around their extraterritorial ressource extraction sites. Unless Putin offers a better deal.

If Russia ever attacks the EU, I'll be against taking US aids. The bill would be probably more damaging than fighting on our own.

The commentator is right that it is "mafia imperialism," but it started before Trump. They lost the war because they listened to America in the first place. I don't see anything wrong with paying Americans back.

"Commentators have described Trump’s aggressive ultimatum as “mafia imperialism”, a “colonial agreement”, and reminiscent of what the Europeans did in the 18th century when they carved up Africa.

It’s as if we lost the war to America. This looks to me like reparations,” Volodymyr Landa, a senior economist at the Centre for Economic Strategy thinktank in Kyiv, said. Ukraine’s overall reserves are worth $14.8tn. They include lithium, titanium and uranium, as well as coal, steel from iron ore, and undersea shale gas. Many deposits had not been developed, Landa said, either because they were not feasible or due to political instability."

First of all that has to be $500 billion in Ukraine money. Because if Ukraine has assets of $1 Trillion USD, they shouldn't be asking for financial help from anyone.

$1 billion Ukrainian hryvnia comes out to about $24 million USD. So that would mean Trump is asking for about $120 million US dollars in mineral rights. And let's keep in mind that the US has given $120 billion in aid to Ukraine according to the BBC. So Trump is only asking for a 0.1% return.

Now if American companies are set up in Ukraine to access those resources, Putin is going to be far less likely to attack Ukraine, because doing so would mean attacking American companies and American citizens.

1: The sign $ stands for "Dollar", not for "unit of currency".

2: Are you sure that 24 million USD times 500 is 120 million USD?

3: What Trump wants is that money's worth in ressources. Ukraine is a ressource rich country, though with that deal, it would immediately stop being a resource rich country because all it's ressources would have been given away as extortion money.

1 billion Ukrainian hryvnia comes out to about 24 million US dollars. 5 x 24 = 120. 5 billion Ukrainian hryvnia = 120 million US dollars.

However are we to go instead with Ukraine has a thousand billion dollars in mineral assets? And they've been asking for financial aid?

Also according to what I looked up the "$" symbol is frequently used for Ukrainian hryvnia.

Asking for 10% of what's been given is a pretty weird form of extortion.

American companies in Ukraine to take out and process those metals and minerals, would mean the United States has a foothold in Ukraine. Which means an attack on Ukraine would be the same as an attack on the United States.

It's worse than blackmail. It is deception.
The real deal will be between two Autocratics sharing the wealth of a nation who is fighting for Democracy and freedom. It is shameful for anyone to think the " deal" is a righteous one.
Blessings
The United States gives $120 billion so far, and askes for 10% of that back in mineral rights. How shockingly mafia. Extortionis always make deals like that. "I give you $120 and you give me $12 in goods back". That's some major arm twisting there.

Common sense tells us that a deal has already been made between two Autocrats.
No one should think that Mr. Putin doesn't have his interests within this deal. My guess; US 50%, Russia 50% and Ukraine absorbed and gone. Let us reason. This is the intention. Europe won't have it .

Well that kinda sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

What is "it" in "it started"

"they lost the war" If "they" means Ukraine then I think that is a false statement. I've used colour to clarify your post.

Mineral resources in the ground can't easily be exchanged for tanks or artillery shells. And it's difficult to conduct mining operations when your country is being invaded.

This would be less confusing if you could get your numbers correct (or at least finish the math problem). Assuming that the deal is valued in Ukrainian Hryvina rather than USD, Trump is asking for $12 billion (which is 10% of $120 billion - you got that part right), not $120 million (which is just 0.1% of $120 billion).

Hmm where does the $12bn figure come from? I don't think anything has been finally agreed yet.

Trump claimed that the deal was worth $500 billion. This was, however, based largely on Soviet-era estimates that may not have been accurate, and there would be significant challenges associated with extracting the full value, since a significant percentage of the known deposits are located in eastern Ukraine (i.e. the part that Russia currently controls). So, some people have tried to retcon that to suggest that Trump actually meant that the deal was worth 500 billion Ukrainian Hryvina, which would work out to about $12 billion USD. The actual agreement never put a monetary value on anything; it just stated that the US Reconstruction Investment Fund would get 50% of the revenue from all government-owned natural resources in Ukraine.
I don't think anything has been finally agreed yet.
The agreement is (probably) defunct at this point, given the outcome of Zelensky's meeting with Trump last week, so the whole discussion is kind of moot.
