  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump expected to sign executive order making English the official US language

"Establishing English as the official language promotes unity, establishes efficiency in government operations, and creates a pathway for civic engagement," the White House wrote in a memo provided to ABC News.

It makes sense. We all can see what happened to Canada. We need to be a united nation.

Yeah, they have two official languages, this is clearly an incremental move towards such horror.

It needs to be real American English. I'm tired of "colour" "maths" and "cheque". This is what happens when DEI runs wild.

It divides their country, it creates a stronger cultural difference. It is extremely inefficient. Imagine the trouble multiple languages would cause.

I must of missed where this power is delegated to the president? Seems like something congress should of addressed if there was such a great need.

Clearly this is going to lead to multiple official languages. Once you get one others will be added.

Yep, Canada should just make French their official language and stop printing stuff in English. That would be much more efficient.

What a quaint pre- 1/20/25 thought.

It's also a reminder that the French have lost every war they have ever fought in. With the exception of the French Revolution. But that's because they were fighting the French.

I'm going to miss all those multipage/multi language supplements with my utility bill. Though it ought to save a few million trees.
It will be interesting to see what happens. Congress may follow-up with a law.

Just look at the divided horror of a divisive state that is Switzerland! That's what more than one language leads to.....

English is all ready the official language.
It's more the default language than official; the US has no official one (yet), Don't know why we even need one.
