...in the Texas county, it apparently spread within a Mennonite community:

State health officials have said this outbreak is Texas’s largest in nearly 30 years. Cases have been concentrated in a “close-knit, undervaccinated” Mennonite community, a health department spokesperson, Lara Anton, has said – especially among families who attend small private religious schools or are homeschooled.

Interesting. I know there have been similar outbreaks among the Amish.

I don’t think the mennonites are as insular as the Amish, except for old order Mennonites. They’re pretty similar.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is “watching” the outbreak, which he described as “not unusual” during a Wednesday meeting of President Donald Trump’s cabinet members.

Others have described it as the largest in 30 years.

He's used to monitoring Samoan outbreaks...

FDA also cancelled a meeting of flu experts to get started on the next vaccine for this fall with no reschedule in sight so far.
I've had the flu, once once in 1984 when I was relatively young ( a smoker then) and once in 2005 and it wasn't pretty. The last time I had the flu it went straight into pneumonia and it took me a month and rounds of antibiotics to get better.
I get my flu vaccine without fail every fall.
Vaccines are a miracle, just look at child and infant deaths pre 1950's and 1960's and today-please.

Texas leaders quiet amid the biggest measles outbreak in decades

But neither Gov. Greg Abbott nor lawmakers from the hardest hit areas have addressed the outbreak publicly in press conferences, social media posts or public calls for people to consider getting vaccinated. State and local authorities in West Texas have not yet enacted more significant measures that other places have adopted during outbreaks, like excluding unvaccinated students from school before they are exposed, or enforcing quarantine after exposure.

But to proactively exclude unvaccinated students before they are known to be exposed requires the Texas health commissioner to declare a public health emergency, which can be activated when there is a health threat that potentially poses a risk of death or severe illness or harm to the public. Anton said there are no plans to declare an emergency at this time, noting that more than 90% of Texans are vaccinated for measles.

Austin Public Health encourages everybody to get Measles vaccination

Dr. Desmar Walkes, Austin/Travis County Medical Director, emphasized the severity of the situation, noting the highly contagious nature of measles.

"It can cause very severe disease, particularly in unvaccinated people," Walkes said. "It can infect children particularly and cause them to be sick enough and require hospitalization, even be in ICU."

[So far no cases in Travis County]

Others have described it as the largest in 30 years.
Two days after initially downplaying the outbreak as “not unusual,” the US health secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr, on Friday said he recognizes the serious impact of the ongoing measles epidemic in Texas – in which a child died recently – and said the government is providing resources, including protective vaccines.

“Ending the measles outbreak is a top priority for me and my extraordinary team,” Kennedy – an avowed anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist who for years has sown doubts about the safety and efficacy of vaccines – said in a post on X.

Also on Friday, Kennedy’s health and human services department announced plans to eliminate public participation in many of the agency’s policy decisions – a proposal that explicitly flouts a promise of “radical transparency” that he previously made to Congress while lawmakers considered confirming his appointment to the cabinet of Donald Trump’s second presidential administration.

Texas pastor brags online about his school having the state’s lowest measles vaccination rate: ‘We celebrate it’

Mercy Culture Church Lead Pastor Landon Schott posted a video to the platform on Wednesday to commend the K-12 preparatory school.

Only 14.3 percent of kindergarteners at the 300-student Fort Worth school were vaccinated for measles for the 2023 to 2024 school years, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said. It is one of six facilities in North Texas that have less than 50 percent of its kindergarten population vaccinated, according to The Dallas Morning News.
