  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Florida Jan. 6 rioter whose case was tossed after Trump pardon arrested on pending weapons charges

WASHINGTON — A Florida man who prosecutors alleged attacked police with an explosive device during the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol — and whose case was dropped following President Donald Trump's sweeping pardons and commutations issued Monday, was arrested Wednesday on pending federal gun charges, according to court records.

Daniel Ball, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday morning, according to an arrest warrant, on a separate indictment returned by federal prosecutors in Florida last summer that charged him for unlawfully possessing a gun as a felon. He had at least three previous felony convictions — one dating back to 2017 for domestic violence battery by strangulation and two in October of 2021 — nine months after the Jan. 6 riot, for resisting law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Aren't we glad that Trump saw fit to put him back on the street? Republicans are not sending us their best people.

Honestly, I don't know if this is such a big deal. He'll still be punished for his crimes if proven guilty or bullied into a plea deal. Among the 1500 or so people who were freed, of course there will be some criminals. Pick any 1500 people in the USA at random and you're bound to pick some people who have a criminal record or charges pending.

I question why he was allowed to run around for 2 days, though. Shouldn't they check if someone has anything else on his books before they release someone as a matter of course?

Will he? I could see another pardon coming. I mean Trump already pardoned him for his attacking law enforcement with an explosive device.

I don't think that Trump will see any benefit to pardon him.

can you imagine the type of criminal history you'd find with a random sampling of 1500 democrat/leftist/BLM protestors/rioters?

it would not be pretty. you'd be searching for the non-criminal, not the other way around.

that there are only a small few of the 1500 J6'ers who have actually committed real crimes says something about their overall quality of character, (which accords with the fact that the vast majority of them were entirely peaceful on J6) and why most of America is rejoicing that they've been pardoned from their political prosecution.

There were no democrat/leftist/BLM rioters. None of those organizations promoted rioting.

Link?

100% of them were felons.

Only people who support criminal behavior are rejoicing.

The government just keeps letting criminals back on the streets to commit more crimes. Soft on crime Trump!

How come the same government turned around and rearrested him then?

It's kinda hard to say Trump made anyone unsafe.

Can we say the same thing for Biden who set free judges and prosecutors who jailed children for profit?

Or the largest thief in American political history who stole more from her constuency than any other etc etc etc

Biden pardoned downright evil people, why are we picking at the J6 protesters?

The police union that backed him seems to disagree.

US police union that backed Trump says January 6 pardons send ‘dangerous message’

As to the Biden pardon I agree they are problematic. That, however, does not excuse Trump's actions. This idea that the other side excesses excuse our own sides problem actions does not lead anywhere good.

Justice Department broadens Trump’s Jan. 6 clemency as it moves to drop gun cases

Federal prosecutors revealed the new legal position this week in court papers seeking to drop gun charges against two former Jan. 6 defendants. The guns in question were found at the two men’s homes during the Jan. 6 investigation, but the alleged gun crimes themselves were not connected to the riot.

The two men whose charges are being dropped — Daniel Ball and Elias Costianes — both had been awaiting trial on Jan. 6-related charges when Trump took office. Ball faced charges of assault, while Costianes had misdemeanor charges pending. Those cases quickly disappeared as a result of Trump’s clemency. But in separate proceedings, they also had both been accused of illegally possessing weapons that law enforcement officers discovered in Jan. 6-related searches.

A third former Jan. 6 defendant, Dan Wilson, also faced firearms charges unrelated to Jan. 6, and two weeks ago, the Justice Department rejected his claim that Trump’s clemency covered those charges. But on Thursday, his attorney urged a court to delay the start of his prison sentence, saying the Justice Department had agreed to “take another look” at his case.

Trump’s DOJ Says J6 Pardons Cover Grenades and Stolen Classified Documents Found at Oath Keeper’s Home

According to trial evidence, Brown had served as a weapons sergeant in the Special Forces, which gave him access to M-67 fragmentation grenades. The classified documents found in his home included a Trip Report detailing sensitive U.S. Department of Defense intelligence tactics, with information that could have endangered a human source if released.

In a motion filed Thursday, Acting U.S. Attorney Sara Sweeney argued that Trump’s January 6 pardon, which applied to offenses related to the Capitol attack, should also cover the charges against Brown, Politico’s Kyle Cheney reported Tuesday.

Trump pardons Jan. 6 rioter for gun offense and woman convicted of threatening to shoot FBI agents

Wilson was pardoned for the gun charges, as for the woman...

After FBI contacted her in 2021 about a tip indicating she may have been at the Capitol on Jan. 6, she posted a video on social media citing her Second Amendment right to carry a gun and she threatened to shoot agents if they came to her house.

I guess threatening federal agents is okay this week.
