Elon Musk said Monday that his “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) team discovered that FEMA spent nearly $60 million to house illegal immigrants in “luxury” New York City hotels last week.

In response, acting FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton said the payments had been suspended, and the employees who authorized them would be disciplined.

“The [DOGE] team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” Musk posted on X early Monday morning. “Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.”

“That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds,” Musk added.

I would simply like to point out, that 59 million dollars is enough money to re-build a minimum of 168 homes in North Carolina...

168 Americans can have a house built to sleep in as it's winter and some electricity... The ground could be getting bulldozed and ready to build on and houses starting going back up.

... But the people at FEMA don't want to follow the law and the executive orders of this President, no, they are acting AGAINST Americans best interest and against the will of the American people and acting as a rogue government.

I want everyone fired and any privileges stripped for this, charges potentially but not one of them should ever be allowed in government again.

Note that we are talking about $60 million in a week. How many weeks has this been going on?

For a while, the Feds have spent 1.4 billion to house migrants already ..that's on top of what the states are spending.

But I don't know if that 59 million was a monthly payment or not... It was simply paid out last week after Trump put in an executive order.

IMO, far too many illegal immigrants and for far too long.
You're saying that the 59 million dollars was spent too efficiently?

LOL
No, I am saying that we wouldn't have had to spend that money if the illegal immigrants were NOT allowed to break our laws by illegally crossing our borders.

How many migrants were housed for that money, and for how long?

I really don't know and it really doesn't matter. Since 2023 we have shelled out 1.4 billion dollars for migrant housing in hotels.

That is 4,000 modest sized homes in most of America that would last 30+ years - and that's not even including what the states have paid out for this nonsense.

Can you imagine how nice it would be if Biden hadn't flooded our country and we had all this money available for Americans who have been through natural disasters?

Too bad we can't have those years back. Now Americans freeze while illegal migrants have a vacation at luxury hotels.

Well that sounds like socialism.
I look forward to your enthusiastic support of the Houses for Americans bill paid for with your tax dollars. You'd support that right? Tax dollars to build poor people FREE homes to live in so they wouldn't be homeless? You're writing to your reps right now to support such a bill. Right?

BTW, how much did DOGE find was spent so convicted felon Trump could go to the Superbowl? Or his golf outings?

It was like 141 MILLION last term. so these migrant housings were like 300% more "efficient" than Trump's golf outings. Money wise.

And when the “luxury hotels” evict them, where do they go?

Call me a skeptic, but...has anybody seen a list...photos of scruffy migrants hanging around the lobby of the Ritz Carleton or Four Seasons...payment authorizations...hotel registrations?

Since inflated enemy body counts during 'Nam, I've never accepted what .gov tells me with blind faith. Goodness, I am a mistrustful sort.

You just take Elon's word for it eh?

These funds were authorized by the US Congress....

FOX News:
FEMA partners with Customs and Border Control (CBP) and administers money to the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), a government-funded program that provides assistance and housing for illegal immigrants released into the U.S.

A New York City Hall spokesperson confirmed to Fox that the city had received funds "through the past week" that were allocated by the Biden administration for the purpose of housing and supporting illegal immigrants.

Of the $59.3 million, $19 million was for direct hotel costs, while the balance funded other services such as food and security. According to NY City Hall, the funds were not part of a disaster relief grant.

Shelter and Services Program (SSP): FEMA administers the SSP, which was created to provide financial support for sheltering and related activities for migrants released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This program is funded through appropriations specifically designated for migrant assistance and does not pull resources from FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund, which is reserved for disaster response efforts

April 12, 2024
WASHINGTON -- Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through FEMA and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), announced $300 million in grants through the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), which was authorized by Congress to support communities that are providing services to migrants. Two hundred seventy-five million dollars will be distributed in the first allocation, and the remaining $25 million will be allocated later in the year to accommodate evolving operational requirements. The initial funding will be available to 55 grant recipients for temporary shelter and other eligible costs associated with migrants awaiting the outcome of their immigration proceedings. Additionally, DHS is announcing $340.9 million through the Shelter and Services Program-Competitive grant program to be allocated before the end of this fiscal year.

We know that those funds were authorized by Congress in one of the many massive continuing resolutions type budgets passed by Congress. Nevertheless, it is STILL just one of many examples of wasteful federal government spending going out to illegal immigrants. The American people have had enough of our money being spent on illegal immigrants; especially when far, far too many of our own citizens should be getting those millions and millions of dollars and resources rather than the illegal immigrants.

What gives Musk the right to cancel payments with hotels and shelters for services rendered?

Of course, AZ. and TX sent bus load after bus load of immigrants to NY. So there is that. :moneybag:
Would you rather that those illegal immigrants stay in lots and lots of large tents?

President Trump is delivering on just one of the many promises that he made to his voters. He said that he would reduce the massive amounts of fraud and wasteful spending in the federal government.

IOW, the hotels should just eat their cost.
