  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your attempt at sarcasm is actually true

As I have stated before, I always have at least four valid Real IDs including a passport on me whenever I go out.

When I am at work, I have to present ID to get on base, to get on my pier, to get on my ship, to login my computer, to shop at the exchange, to buy food at the commissary, to get gas, so being prepared to prove who I am is not an issue.

My driver’s license is usually sufficient, but I’ve never been stopped by ICE

When I'm home thats all I need. When I am doing my military work, I need several IDs and it's just easier to carry them all the time so I don't forget.

So I need to carry my birth certificate, passport etc. on job sites from now on ? I guess I'll dig it up since I am a first generation Cuban with brown hair, brown skin and brown eyes. Repugnant.
If you are employed you do have paperwark etc. If you work illegally ( cash under the table), then yes you can get in big trouble. I thought you guys were against companies hiring illegals?

The owner of Ocean Seafood Depot, located at Adams and Delancey streets, told CBS News New York that about one dozen ICE agents came in unannounced at around 11 a.m. Eastern Time, asking to see documentation of his employees.

"They didn't have a court order or, I mean, I didn't even ask," he said.

The owner said his manager tried to show his veteran's card, but the agents did not accept it.

The owner said three people were taken into custody.
That is what they always have done. The problem is when corruption crept in, the employers were sometimes given a heads up. LOL this guy is complaining because he wasn't given a heads up by a corrupt system???....That did go on so the illegal workers would not be there that day. I thought you guys were against companies hiring illegal workers. Always pushing e verify. This went on under E verify

I am more against detaining American citizens.
We will find whats up. Maybe they were harboring these illegals, maybe they also were working illegally under the table, maybe they had a warrent . Wait for the facts.

ICE's sole authority is over immigration.
Pay slave wages to people who have no rights but don’t inconvenience people who do?
The detained people in this scenario are the co-workers, not the owner.

I am telling you from experience. Employees that don't show up because the employer/s are given a heads up. It has been quite a surprise to the rest of the employees until that day, as they would discuss among themselves who they thought might not show up.
There were those you thought for sure were legal that were not, and those you thought were illegal were actually legal You only knew when they did or did not the day they came in. The heads up however, was corruption operating there. There should have been no heads up.
The detained people in this scenario are the co-workers, not the owner.
See the above.
The owner's or employers know, or highly suspect when E verify is bogus. This why they don't have illegals there when they show up.
Trump is cleaning up these things. It is no more you scratch my back i will scratch yours. Between employer and feds.

No American citizens were charged with anything. They were just hassled.

Okay. From what some were saying it sounded like rhe citizens were charged with something.

I don't care if they were hassled. If you are among a group of criminals, I suspect you would be hassled. I would expect it for myself under such circumstances. At least until they sorted things out.

Do you work at a place with lots of illegals? You know if you have real ID you have to provide your birth certificate and everything in order to get one. They arw not targeting "brown skinned people". They are going after illegals that they know of. Mostly more serious criminals for now.

Not quite, but close:
They opened the door to the warehouse, he said, and heard a voice asking: “Who speaks Spanish?”

The agents started separating the Spanish-speaking workers from the rest, Salinas and another employee recalled.

No, in order to meet the quotas, ICE is clearly taking a shotgun approach. This was not a case of going after known 'criminals'.

Well, first up, that's not true. From here for example: MSN

A Puerto Rican family, including a toddler, was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Milwaukee after being overheard speaking Spanish; this incident is the latest in a surge of racial profiling concerns amid Trump's immigration crackdown. The family, all U.S. citizens, were transported to a detention center before officials acknowledged their mistake and issued an apology.

The mother, grandmother, and young child had been shopping when authorities approached and detained them. They were not allowed to clarify their status until they were already in custody, according to Telemundo Puerto Rico.'

And some who are not citizens are not even kept in custody: Some migrants arrested in Trump’s immigration crackdown have been released back into U.S.

'In a statement to NBC News, an ICE spokesperson acknowledged federal court cases limit ICE from detaining people indefinitely if their countries refuse to take them back, which can lead ICE to release them.

“The agency’s federal law enforcement officers do everything they can to keep our communities safe,” the spokesperson said. “In some cases, ICE is required to release certain arrested aliens from custody.

So all those taken into custody are criminals? Well, that's not true. And I thought that they were going after the worst offenders first? So that's not true. And Trump said the worst would be sent to Guantanamo? Which I think he just made up on the spot. So that's not true either.

Is Telemundo a good, unbiased source?
