  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

US citizen was arrested during the raid. How? Why? I would argue thst the evidence suggested that he was knowingly harboring illegal criminal migrants.
I don't get this. If you are hanging around a bunch of criminals and the place gets raided, why wouldn't you be detained with the rest of them? Especially if you don't have an ID that can be immediately checked. Also, just cause you are an American Citizen it doesn't mean you are not involved in the criminal activity of those you with. An investigation into who you are and what you are doing is highly appropriate.

Three men were arrested at a seafood distributor in New Jersey last week, as part of Trump’s immigration crackdown. Two were released within days.

David Salinas’s day started out like any other.
He was doing inventory of shellfish on the computer in an office at the Ocean Seafood Depot, where he has worked for nearly two years, when he heard loud shouting coming from the warehouse.

They opened the door to the warehouse, he said, and heard a voice asking: “Who speaks Spanish?”

The agents started separating the Spanish-speaking workers from the rest, Salinas and another employee recalled.

Agents loaded Salinas into a nondescript vehicle. He and his two colleagues were driven five miles to the Elizabeth Detention Center, an ICE facility operated by a private prison company.

On Jan. 24, Salinas’s family members and friends learned that there was hope of his release. ICE informed them he had to pay a $10,000 bond. Nobody, including Salinas, had the money on their own. So workers at Ocean Seafood Depot pooled together donations, and more than a dozen other of Salinas’s relatives and friends chipped in to come up with money for his release.

On Monday — four days after he was arrested — Salinas was allowed to leave. So was one of his co-workers, Robinson Sanchez.

He and Sanchez were given notices to appear in court, kicking off what is likely to be a lengthy legal process. Their third co-worker, Sanchez’s uncle, had overstayed his visa, and was kept in detention and placed in deportation proceedings, according to an ICE spokesperson.
This story is soundly lacking in information. Like, what were they charged with? If you are arrested and have to post bond, you are charged with something. What was it? Who is this guy and what is his part in all this? Maybe it's in the article but it's behind a paywall.

This article just seems to be an attempt at garnering sympathy for someone who was charged with some sort of an offense. I suspect we will see a lot more of this pandering as raids and deportations increase.

My advice? Don't hire illegals or harbor them.

The Trump administration is preparing to revoke the legal status of many of the migrants who were allowed to come to the U.S. legally from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela under former President Joe Biden, according to internal government documents reviewed by CBS News.
Sounds good. Biden opened the floodgates and Trump is closing them. I noted in the article:

Under the new move, the Trump administration would revoke the parole status of those allowed into the U.S. under the CHNV policy and place them in deportation proceedings if they have failed to apply for, or obtain, another immigration benefit, like asylum, a green card, or Temporary Protected Status, the internal proposal shows.

So as long as they have applied for those things they will be fine.

Duh, being illegal aliens. Catch and release.

White House officials have released photos of migrants loaded onto military planes and flown to other countries, giving the impression that those being arrested are immediately deported. Many of those shown in the photos are migrants who have recently tried to illegally cross the border. Those arrested elsewhere in the country are probably being held in detention centers that ICE officials say are growing more crowded — or they are released on bail with a day to appear in court.

No American citizens were charged with anything. They were just hassled.

Haven't heard that word since my Cheech and Chong days
"Hey, are you pigs giving us a hassle?"

According to this, May 7, 2025 is the drop dead date.

Yes. I believe that DHS is saying all states are compliant. The individual has until May 7th to get it.

Yeah, I had better get cracking.

Are you going to be traveling/flying soon?

If you can, get an enhanced license, it's real ID and serves like a passport for land crossing.

Not if I don't get this done, evidently. May is soon - this year is flying whizzing by.

Isn't the enhanced license the same as real ID?

It is real ID, but acts like a passport when going to Canada or Mexico. With just a real ID, you still need a passport to cross land borders.
