  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You don’t know why he was arrested do you? You are just making an assumption
No, I'm providing an informed analysis based on the information available, in response to unfounded claims that this person was arrested for "harboring criminal illegal immigrants." You'll note that I qualified my statements as my opinion ("it seems...") and provided the reasoning behind those opinions. The only people who *know* why he was arrested are the ICE agents who arrested him.

Entering the country illegally is a crime punishable by 6 months in jail, a fine or both. Repeated violations are a felony
You and I both know that that's not what was meant by "criminal" - otherwise the term is redundant.

It seems to me that if any papers were checked then everyone's papers should be checked

I was held for hours with the shearing crew. My papers were checked exactly the same as everyone elses papers.
There wasn't any discrimination or privilege for anyone.

The employer was being investigated for hiring illegal immigrants who did not have social security cards, thereby violating US tax law.
The illegal Austrialians were charged with various violations of fraudulent and expired visas.
Even if a person is a US citizen, in that type of raid, All the employees will be held until all the papers are checked.

This is a routine that has been happening for decades or more.
Nothing new here
What does any of this have to do with my post?

I’ll be glad in 6 months when the fear mongering doomsayers have to eat their words and renew their fear mongering with new predictions.
???
My guess is you would say there was baseless fearmongering in 2016 as well.
Did you notice them "eat their words"

Yes predictions that Trump would never be President are wrong
But would you say any current Trump critics on this Forum are going to retract any of their attacks?
What about Trump critics not on this Forum?
They’ll never retract. Theyl move on to their next faux outrage

Not when it becomes the new normal.
Maybe we should (I dunno) make it so people who have been vetted as “Real Citizens” would have Some sort of “documentation” that they would have on their person at all times?
Like, (say), a tattoo?

Why else would he be hanging around violent illegal criminals when ICE did their raid? This is no secret. Trump has been very open and vocal about his position so let me break things down for you. Trump is targeting the violent 'worst of the worst' illegal alien criminals. So lets say ICE conducts a raid to target a known illegal immigrant who is a MS13 gang member who sells fentenal and has committed violent crimes. They conduct a raid of the house that the criminal is located and they find several other illegal immigrants and a couple US citizens. ICE will then arrest their target and detain everyone in the home while they do their investigation. Although the other parties were not their primary target, if the investigation finds that the other individuals are in the country illegally, regardless of their criminal history, they will also be arrested and deported. Then there is the issue about the citizens. It is likely that they were aware of the illegal status of the others and failed to report them. Therefore, they would be guilty of harboring illegal immigrants. Which is a crime. Thus, the US citizens would also be arrested for harboring illegal immigrants and will have their day in court to plead their case. Does that make sense? So, I trust that law inforcement did their due dilligence and arrested these citizens based on probable cause and they will have their day in court. God is doing great things with Trump as president.
This would make for a good HBO series.

How so? The article says nothing about whether any of the migrants detained in the raid had criminal records, so "criminal migrants" is a baseless assumption. And he was a fellow employee at the business - how does that equate to "harboring"? Seems to me that he was arrested because ICE officials assumed that he was an illegal immigrant based on his ethnicity and the fact that he was working with illegal immigrants, despite the fact that he had documentation showing his citizenship.
If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck. Just use some comon sense.

History says otherwise.
ICE has no additional budget to carry out their mission. Other federal agencies are supporting them. But ultimately, it's up to the agent's judgement and knowledge as to determine who should be detained. When that agent has a quote to meet, it's only natural that US citizens, residents and visa holders will get arrested and detained. That is a violation of their civil rights.

Okay wait until it actually happens before talking about rights being violated as if it's already happened

The problem is that this doesn't look, smell, or quack like a duck. You've invented the duck out of whole cloth.

Okay. If that's what you think. But it seems more reasonable than ICE arresting random citizens because of their skin color.

??? Why not just say there was no evidence of racial profiling instead of randomly explaining MS13 is bad like people do not have a grasp of the obvious?

Three men were arrested at a seafood distributor in New Jersey last week, as part of Trump’s immigration crackdown. Two were released within days.

David Salinas’s day started out like any other.
He was doing inventory of shellfish on the computer in an office at the Ocean Seafood Depot, where he has worked for nearly two years, when he heard loud shouting coming from the warehouse.

They opened the door to the warehouse, he said, and heard a voice asking: “Who speaks Spanish?”

The agents started separating the Spanish-speaking workers from the rest, Salinas and another employee recalled.

Agents loaded Salinas into a nondescript vehicle. He and his two colleagues were driven five miles to the Elizabeth Detention Center, an ICE facility operated by a private prison company.

On Jan. 24, Salinas’s family members and friends learned that there was hope of his release. ICE informed them he had to pay a $10,000 bond. Nobody, including Salinas, had the money on their own. So workers at Ocean Seafood Depot pooled together donations, and more than a dozen other of Salinas’s relatives and friends chipped in to come up with money for his release.

On Monday — four days after he was arrested — Salinas was allowed to leave. So was one of his co-workers, Robinson Sanchez.

He and Sanchez were given notices to appear in court, kicking off what is likely to be a lengthy legal process. Their third co-worker, Sanchez’s uncle, had overstayed his visa, and was kept in detention and placed in deportation proceedings, according to an ICE spokesperson.
