  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why else would he be hanging around violent illegal criminals when ICE did their raid? This is no secret. Trump has been very open and vocal about his position so let me break things down for you. Trump is targeting the violent 'worst of the worst' illegal alien criminals. So lets say ICE conducts a raid to target a known illegal immigrant who is a MS13 gang member who sells fentenal and has committed violent crimes. They conduct a raid of the house that the criminal is located and they find several other illegal immigrants and a couple US citizens. ICE will then arrest their target and detain everyone in the home while they do their investigation. Although the other parties were not their primary target, if the investigation finds that the other individuals are in the country illegally, regardless of their criminal history, they will also be arrested and deported. Then there is the issue about the citizens. It is likely that they were aware of the illegal status of the others and failed to report them. Therefore, they would be guilty of harboring illegal immigrants. Which is a crime. Thus, the US citizens would also be arrested for harboring illegal immigrants and will have their day in court to plead their case. Does that make sense? So, I trust that law inforcement did their due dilligence and arrested these citizens based on probable cause and they will have their day in court. God is doing great things with Trump as president.
Amen, my brother.

There's something called the Gulf of Mexico?
Yeah. It's part of the ocean to the south of your country. You must know it. It's been called that since way before you were born. Someone just asked for it to be changed. You can work out why.

I do honestly believe a careful examination of all the renamed schools and torn down monuments in the last 15 years by actors on the left side of the aisle tells us that we have a Gulf of America - no issues.

From what I've seen so far, it's a ship of fools. Plenty of huff and puff but no practical sense of what needs to be done or how to do it.

For some comparison, the largest jail system in the US is Los Angeles County Jail system, which generally handles about 12,000 inmates. Staff required are around 4,700 (figures from here: Los Angeles County Jail System by the Numbers). So the equivalent number of staff required for 30,000 bad dudes would be 11,750.

Guantanamo is obviously a military base. Is Trump going to have that many DoD servicemen looking after these people? The budget for LA is close to a billion dollars. How long is he going to keep them there and where's the money coming from? Will they have access to due process? Have they been convicted? The number of people detained at Guantanamo has been less than 800. So that might be the number of secure cells. The number of servicemen are around 8,500 (Guantanamo Bay Naval Base - Wikipedia). So where does the 30,000 figure come from?

...Trump is leaning on the Pentagon budget and resources...and of course with his lap dog installed as Sec of Defense, no one will object or note the impact on the military's operations. My guess is Military Police units will be tasked with providing securit at Guantanamo (most likely Guard/Reserve units would need to be called up).

It seems so...puerile. I can imagine a spoiled child wanting her own way and shouting 'I don't care what it used to be called. I'm gonna call it what I want to call it and you can't stop me!'

Maybe someone should tell Trump that he's now named it after an Italian explorer. And what's next? Changing Colorado to Scarlet? Nevada to Snowfall? New Mexico to New America? Florida to Flowering?

Why does it look like you are using vitriolic language to describe the Secretary of Defense? I hope that you don't have the same kind of insulting words towards Americans who strongly support our current Secretary of Defense and the POTUS.

The progressive left wing liberals in the Federal government changed the names of places in such a way that those progressives in government behaved like spoiled children, in my opinion.

So the fact this is North America is nothing? Just some Italian name?

Gulf of America is fine and it's neither petulant or childish, but we are off topic so I'll stop replying. We do share equal amounts of coastline and we are on the North American continent though.

There's that schoolyard excuse again.

Nope. North America is where you'll find 23 disparate countries. None of them are named after 15th century Italians. Yours is the only one that does that.

I never could understand why the need to name Federal installations after people who tried to overthrow the United States government, and lost trying to do it. Yes, they should have been changed. Furthermore it would have been beneficial to listen to those same losing southern generals who wished NOT to have statues erected in their honor in fear of retarding progress. The same generals who asked the confederate flag be put away for good. They in the end, were right about putting away all monuments of that part of history for good.

Americans are not required to give personal support or loyalty to individual government officials--only to the Constitution. We are required by law to obey them withing the scope of their legal authority, that's all.

There’s that “I refuse to acknowledge anything Biden or Democrats did negatively “ response
If you think that someone I might support has done something wrong, then bring it to the table with some details and if I think that you've made your point and that you're right I will agree with you. Then again, I might not and give you the reasons.

But what I won't do is say that Trump did something similar so that therefore excuses it. I grew out of doing that in 4th grade. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to point that out.
