  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't have one. They didn't give me one the last time I renewed.
Expect a knock on the door anytime soon...

Just a thought, but there are contact details for ICE where you can report what you think may be a case of illegal immigrants: How to report an immigration violation | USAGov.

'ICE accepts anonymous reports by phone and online.

Call 1-866-347-2423, the ICE Homeland Security Investigations Tip Line, to report an immigration violation from the U.S. or Canada. If you are in another country, call 1-802-872-6199.
Report an immigration violation online using the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE Tip Form.'

I was thinking (and most definitely not suggesting) that if anyone was alarmed about the administration deporting whole families to what could be a dangerous country with no health facilities, education, housing or job prospects I could see them making false (and anonymous) claims about where illegal immigrants might be found to gum up the system

Of course, I'll bet that absolutely nobody has had that same thought...

....you grossly over estimate the data systems of ICE. I mean one would assume a drivers license will do....then again, 23 years after 9/11, we still don't have "Secure ID (aka Real ID)" deployed in all 50 states.
You are right about that - that would be step one indeed.

"One of the detainees is a U.S. military veteran who suffered the indignity of having the legitimacy of his military documentation questioned," Baraka said.
Oh, the Indignity of it all!
A minor inconvenience is a full blown Constitutional crisis?

I live on the border. I am constantly going through checkpoints. There are border patrol all over the area.
The agents are courteous, efficient, respectful and equal in treatment of everyone.
The residents here are glad the border patrol agents are here and doing their job.
It is a minor inconvenience to have checkpoints and quick searches of vehicles but the agents are just doing their job, what they are paid to do.
And the agents own houses,, have children in the local schools, pay taxes and are good neighbors. The border patrol agents are a part of the community, welcome and respected.

Have they been given their quota yet? If Trump is going to deport 12 million people over the next 4 years, that equates to well over 8,000 per day.

Different context. As a border resident, you expect the occasional checkpoint. And as a local American citizen, you're not likely to have your documents questioned.

ICE was performing a work place raid in New Jersey. The US military veteran that was questioned was also Puerto Rican, who of course is a US citizen. The report doesn't specify what military documents he presented (presumably a military ID of some type). In any case, it sounds like ICE agents may lacked discretion, especially if they ended up detaining a US citizen for several hours.

Because Mayor Baraka's city is a "sanctuary city", I am more than just a little bit hesitant to accept his reports of what happened to be 100% factual.
Anyone can legally be detained when there is a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. I guess for the next four years the media focus will be who got their feelings hurt because they were asked for ID

Oh well, we can’t get them all so we should just do nothing.

We're those your only 2 options? What a really weird thing to say.

Now if you had said 'That many? That's not possible. Trump was obviously lying to us' then that would have made some sense.

Look at the border. Less than 400 encounters. An all time low after one week of Trump in office. Someone had to stop the bleeding. And he did it without a bill being passed, so for 4 years Biden was lying to us about the border.
Are all of them going to be deported? No, but the worst offenders are being deported now. Who in their right mind would be against that?

CE was performing a work place raid in New Jersey.
There is a very large and well organized black market in phony documents.
There are many cases of identity theft and fraudulent documents
The word is that any identification or documentation required by the government can be bought easily enough.
Now that we have computers maybe the Gov't will start scrutinizing everyone's documents.

Much more effective to simply ignore documents and use skin tone, as they did in Newark.

So Trump was lying to you. The figures are ridiculous. He just kept bumping them up so he'd look good saying he'd send them all back. Did you know that then or have you only just realised it..?

So explain this to me. You can use some examples if you have them. Are the people being deported those who have had their sentences completed for the crimes they committed? Or are they being deported without being punished for them?

The actual raids I was in were in shearing camps.
The barns, sheds and dog houses were searched.
All papers, including mine were scrutinzed carefully
The shearing sheds were shut down for half a day
The illegals, Australians all, were hauled away.
Those Aussies were rather light of skin tone and most had sky blue eyes.

I can’t find any information on it so I don’t know how the process works. Either is preferable to having them free in our country to continue to commit crimes

So you have no idea if people have been sentenced for any crimes, it sounds like you don't actually know if they've committed any crimes, you don't know if they will be sentenced for any crimes and you don't know who they are or where they are being sent to. You don't know anything about this whatsoever. But apparently you support it.

No, it's actually not. If they have comitted a crime and haven't been punished then simply deporting them is most definitely not preferable. Maybe you could spend some time time investigating this before you argue for it.

I’m definitely for it despite your post. Who is being deported?
U.S. criminal convictions. Pending criminal charges in the United States. *This category includes those who have repeatedly violated U.S. law by reentering after deportation, immigration fugitives with an executable final order of removal, and international fugitives wanted for crimes committed abroad.

Keep writing clever posts , your guy lost and Trump is knocking it out of the park in his first week,
Maybe you should spend some time investigating it before you argue against it

It would help to see some context, so a link to where you have now managed to find at least some information would be helpful. And I'm being very generous in using the term 'information'.

So 'US criminal convictions'. What does that mean? Are you deporting people who have finished their sentences? What does 'pending criminal charges' mean? You're sending people out of the country who are waiting to be charged with offences? 'International criminals' are wanted overseas? Are you sending them under guard to where they are wanted?

'Hey, look. Our guy is doing something'. Except that you don't know what. You have no interest in what's happening. You just want something to happen.
