Argentine President Javier Milei delivered a speech before the World Economic Forum Wednesday, calling out the supranational organization for embracing the “sinister agenda of wokeism” and rallied support to defeat the ideology and its components, including the “bloody and murderous abortion agenda” and LGBT ideology.

In his speech to world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, Milei said, “it is our moral duty and our historical responsibility to dismantle the ideological edifice of sickly wokeism.”

Milei denounced the “sinister agenda of wokeism” and the “mental virus of woke ideology” as the “great epidemic of our time that must be cured” and “the cancer that we need to get rid of.” He elaborated on what he viewed as the harmful impacts of “woke ideology,” specifically the “bloody and murderous abortion agenda” that he described as an outgrowth of a faulty premise “that overpopulation will destroy the earth and that we must therefore implement some form of population control” as well as “the LGBT agenda.”

For those of you who don't know, he is the president of Argentina who campaigned with a chainsaw to cut the budget. Unemployment is now 40% and my friend, who just returned from Buenos Aires, said the helpless homeless line the streets and there are widespread political protests.
Hopefully nations will learn what not to do from this man.

Well? That’s fair, but I don’t think wokeness helps with unemployment et al.

Taking a chainsaw to the budget (as Elon Musk wants to do) creates huge unemployment, deficits due to lowered tax revenue), and severe recession.
Whether I am surrounded by woke (aka enlightened) people or not my life won't change. My happiness doesn't depend on preventing others from leading their best lives.
But hurt me or any of the people I love because of cost cutting? Unforgivable.

I guess it depends on your personal definition of “woke.”

"Woke" is an insulting word use by right wing extremists to describe progressive ideas. It bears no relationship to reality, but because it is only four letters long and easy to remember, it's a brainwashing word to manipulate the easily led.

Woke was originally a term progressives used to describe themselves until the right adopted it as an epithet for leftist progressives. It is a word that perfectly describes a certain type of person quite well.

I thought it was originally used among African Americans?

None of my friends ever used it--although to be fair most are senior citizens.
I don’t know? It has become common rather recently?

If I'm opposed to transgender ideology, believe it's morally wrong to kill a child inside its mother's womb, believe children do best with a mother and a father, and people should enter countries legally? Does that make me anti-woke? Does that make me an extremist? lol

If so, I wear that as a badge of honor!

My Christianity informs everything I do.

I think being anti-woke means putting divisive wedge issues over the common good. The survival of our planet and care for our environment (about which an encyclical was written); Catholicism's preferential option for the poor; opposing the intrinsic evil of racism; recognizing that having one's basic needs met is a human right.
In my estimation, the current administration, cabinet, Republican legislators and justices are at least modestly anti-woke, and many don't give the common good a moment's thought.
Bishop Budde's sermon was a plea to the anti-woke.

Ah, I see. I just think woke and anti-woke differs from person to person.

Thanks for the input.

I 100% agree with your definition of being anti-woke.

What does woke stand for?

It stands for being pro LGBT. Pro abortion. Pro Egalitarianism and universal equality.

It could mean socialism as well but we don't have to be Communists to help the poor.

Why should any Christian necessarily be woke?

Based on that definition, no Christian should be "woke."

No, it's below 7%.

Also, Milei's "chainsaw" reduced Argentina's annual inflation from 211% in 2023 to 117% in 2024. Sounds like he was just what Argentina needed to keep from becoming the next Zimbabwe.

I thought unemployment was around 4.1%?
