Questions for Pete Hegseth's Confirmation Hearing

In preparation for next week's Senate confirmation hearings, Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a 33 page letter to Pete Hegseth on Monday, requesting that he address the following quetions:

1. If confirmed as Secretary of Defense, what is your strategy to address the significant management challenges identified by the DoD IG and the GAO?

2. What expenses did you pay for at VFF that accounted for the unpaid bills and credit card debts that you admitted to the donors as being responsible for? Were you asked to refund the organization for any of these expenses? If so, did you refund them?

3. What was the total credit card debt that VFF racked up during your time in its leadership?

4. What were the circumstances under which you resigned from CVA? Were you asked or pressured to resign, and if so, for what reasons?

5. Will you commit to not using Department resources for the personal benefit of yourself, or any of your family members or friends?

He should not be Secretary of Defense. There are many more qualified conservatives, republicans, or MAGA supporters who can fill the position.

Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, and Tulsi Gabbard are not suitable for these positions. While no one expects President Trump to nominate Democrats or Never Trumpers, there are many qualified Republicans who support him and his agenda.

DoD has never passed a clean audit – failing to pass one in the seven occasions since 2018 that it has tried to be audited – and you will be responsible for addressing the DoD Inspector General’s (DoD IG) findings of material weakness, significant deficiencies, and instances of noncompliance that it identified in the auditors’ review of $4.1 trillion in assets in FY 2024.

You will also need to guide DoD to address many management challenges identified by the DoD IG and the GAO, including “Improving DoD Financial Management and Budgeting,” “Protecting the Health and Wellness of Service Members and Their Families,” “Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce,”11 and “Transforming DoD Program Management.”

Letting President Trump have the people he’s nominated to these positions (after the usual dog-&-pony shows of the confirmation hearings), would be a fine “strategy“; sure it’d be more work later to pick up the pieces…but if you’ve planned for that you could come our far ahead of where you’d be otherwise. Hegseth never responded to the Senator's inquiry.
Hegseth refused to even with with the Seator, and nearly all her follow Democrat Senators, before the hearing.
