But....I thought the GOP objected to that. Surely, when they're in charge, they'll adopt a policy to ensure that kind of thing didn't happen.

Right?

-- A2SG, or are you saying the GOP is perfectly fine with the idea after all?
I'm saying gerontocracy happens because politicians figure out how to stay in power for a long time. The party doesn't matter. Biden was sharp as a tack, right, until it was obvious he really wasn't. Trump will be sharp as ever until it's obvious he no longer is. Are you expecting some kind of principled position from either the Democrats or the Republicans? Kindly as I can, are you that naive? Are the Democrats suddenly actually opposed to gerontocracy? Or just opposed to Trump who happens to be only a bit younger than Biden?

As to what the GOP is fine with, you would have to ask them. I haven't been a Republican for eight years and four months. I'm not fine with incapacitated presidents and invisible bureaucrats running the country where people are pretending that's hunky dory. That lie, that Biden was more than OK, was the big lie of this presidency. It was not OK.

The only way to prevent a gerontocracy is for voters to stop voting for old politicians and keeping them in office. We had a choice in the last election between someone almost 80 years old, and someone twenty years younger...and almost exactly half of the voters chose the older one.

The party doesn't matter. Biden was sharp as a tack, right, until it was obvious he really wasn't. Trump will be sharp as ever until it's obvious he no longer is. Now, I don't know if President Biden is "sharp as a tack" or not, or whether or not he has any actual cognitive decline that prevents him from doing his job, and neither does anyone else here. Unless, of course, they're a neurologist who has experience with cognitive decline due to aging who has personally and directly examined the President. Anyone saying otherwise is either guessing, assuming, or pontificating.

And that's my point.

As to what the GOP is fine with, you would have to ask them. I haven't been a Republican for eight years and four months. It's only a lie if you can prove that President Biden is incapable of performing the duties of his office. So far as I've heard, no one has done that, so all we're left with is assumptions and opinions from people without any actual knowledge of the facts.

-- A2SG, all that's "obvious" here is that Biden is old.....and so is Trump....

Very well said, from my moderate Republican views.

Happily he ages out of office in 18 days. If you need to believe he is sharp as a tack and actually capable enough to be in charge of the nuclear codes that's fine. I hope he ages out without even more war than we have now.

One should not expect that the lie that Biden was "sharp as a tack" would even be up for consideration in a race for lie of the year, because the folks who award such meaningless titles were the biggest pushers of that lie. So of course they wouldn't highlight their own lies as "lie of the year".

We don't have any war right now.

As I said, I have no idea what his cognitive state is. I've never met the man. I just know that anyone here who claims to know, doesn't. Unless, of course, they're a neurologist who has experience with cognitive decline due to aging who has personally and directly examined the President.

There may be wars and conflicts going on around the world, but we're not directly involved in any of them, so that seems a safe bet.

There’s no need for personal attacks, here.
This post must have mistakenly responded to the wrong post.

There does seem to be a pattern, though, of confusing discussions surrounding what was written in various posts with personal attacks. Perhaps as a way to distract from the failings in a subset of those posts.
