  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How is that accomplished when one says, "I want to vote;" and the registrar says, "Sure! Here's a number?"

Moreover, what is to keep one from acquiring multiple numbers?
I dunno. Like I said, that sounds like it could be a registering problem in California. If it actually is a problem, we should put pressure on them to fix that.

Greene, who was tapped to lead a subcommittee working with the Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), laid out how she hopes to cut government spending

The congresswoman said government-funded media programs like NPR, which she claimed "spread nothing but Democrat propaganda," will be under the subcommittee’s microscope.

What did they do? Debunk the Jewish space lasers? Make fun of the Democratic hurricane generator? I heard a story on NPR that convinced me that the Hatian refugees weren't actually eating household pets. Definitely Democratic propaganda.

Thank you for this. So not all the data comes from NOAA, but a significant chunk of it does, which would then become unavailable if it were to be abolished.
I suspect that private meteorologists can pick up the slack and the US weather models aren't the only models; and the US models aren't necessarily the most accurate.

That said, I'm sure that it won't prevent us from knowing when a hurricane is on the horizon; and models don't accurately predict where they will make landfall anyway, until they're almost there.

Are you sure you want to get your weather information from a foreign country? They're most;y all "woke" about global warming--you wouldn't be able to trust them.

You would have done well to have read the first paragraph of the linked article in the OP:

Legislative definitions of an agency of the federal government of the United States are varied, and even contradictory. The official United States Government Manual offers no definition.[1][2] While the Administrative Procedure Act definition of "agency" applies to most executive branch agencies, Congress may define an agency however it chooses in enabling legislation, and through subsequent litigation often involving the Freedom of Information Act and the Government in the Sunshine Act. These further cloud attempts to enumerate a list of agencies.[3][4]

The first link within that link provides even deeper insight to rebut your bare assertion:

A government agency or state agency, sometimes an appointed commission, is a permanent or semi-permanent organization in the machinery of government (bureaucracy) that is responsible for the oversight and administration of specific functions, such as an administration.[1] There is a notable variety of agency types. Although usage differs, a government agency is normally distinct both from a department or ministry, and other types of public body established by government. The functions of an agency are normally executive in character since different types of organizations (such as commissions) are most often constituted in an advisory role — this distinction is often blurred in practice however, it is not allowed.

Those are still not agencies but corporations.

Federal Requirement to register and vote:
"any official document that shows your name and current address. Official documents include bank statements, pay stubs, rental leases, utility bills,"

It is and has been the Federal Law since 1993 or earlier.
A person does not have to have ID to vote in Federal Elections
They only have to prove they are residents of the State or less.

There is a Voter ID law in the Congress that is vehemently opposed by those who claim it is "voter suppression" to require any form of ID to vote. Therefore all the States usually require is "residency" such as a utility bill or rent receipt.
Do you have the particular case in Arizona that resulted in this? Other states do require a state issued id to register.

Well, Musk has satellites, so maybe the new government will just outsource NOAA data collection and dissemination to one of his companies. No more need for sharpies to adjust forecasts! Just a call to the First Buddy.

No conflict of interest there. Nope.

Do you have the particular case in Arizona that resulted in this? Other states do require a state issued id to register.

There is a Federal Law that was passed in 1993 that specifically states that no ID or proof of citizenship is required.
Arizona passed a law that all voters had to prove citizenship
The 9th Circuit divided the State and Federal
Arizona has 2 ballots

I suspect that if you check your State very carefully, there isn't any requirement for ID or citizenship.
If you notice that California list, the first is ID required.
That is a red herring and people will pull out their ID.
However:
There are the alternates listed
Ending with what is Actual Fact
No ID required

Check your State. It has to conform to that 1993 law and that is No Proof of Citizenship required.

New York Voter Registration requires One (1) of the listed documents
If you do not provide your driver's license number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration form, you can include a copy of any of the following documentation with your registration application:
  • Current and Valid Photo ID
  • Current Utility Bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Government Check or Paycheck
  • Government Document that shows Name and Address

Now that you mention it.. getting rid of the DoD and the DA, DON, DAF and USMC under it would be in line with the original intent of the Constitution.
Although, the Army and the Air Force do need annual authorization by Congress. Congress must vote each year for their continuance.

It can get fuzzy, of course, because the government has long-term DoD contracts with thousands of companies. The government would be sued into the next century if they tried to abruptly abrogate those contracts.

I'm also not fond of OSHA. Why should I put railings on my narrow catwalks? That's no fun.

I know you're just being sarcastic, but why would eliminating OSHA mean that you would have to stop putting railings on narrow catwalks?

It's well-known that the Galactic Empire of Star Wars does not have OSHA.

Railings add cost and are only there for employee safety. If there is nobody to enforce OHS laws, then why spend the money?

From our good friend’s link:
“National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) uses the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) to collect and distribute weather observations from NOAA and non-NOAA organizations.”
