  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At 18:40 into the video she says this

The sin of intemperate eating, eating too frequently, too much, and of rich, unwholesome food, destroys the healthy action of the digestive organs, affects the brain, and perverts the judgment, preventing rational, calm, healthy thinking and acting. And this is a fruitful source of church trials. Therefore, in order for the people of God to be in an acceptable state with Him, where they can glorify Him in their bodies and spirits, which are His, they must with interest and zeal deny the gratification of their appetites, and exercise temperance in all things. Then may they comprehend the truth in its beauty and clearness, and carry it out in their lives, and by a judicious, wise, straightforward course, give the enemies of our faith no occasion to reproach the cause of truth

So on these last two posts it brings to mind how many sick people believed the gospel and were saved by Christ and the apostles. These examples in scripture were a lot more inflicted with health issues than what Ellen White is describing in this book. What I’m seeing in her writings is that God expects perfection from us in order to be justified to Him, at least that’s what it appears that Ellen White is saying here. According to this, sick people and fat people can’t be reconciled to God. According to her writings you have to be 100% in perfect health to be able to discern spiritual matters, be a moral person, and to understand the scriptures.

If veganism or not eating much could make people healthy, Jesus would have nobody to heal. People were poor, eating just some bread or fish, living in a clean environment etc. But they were full of various sickness, both physical and mental, everywhere Jesus went.

Ok at 20:30 into the video she said this.

Some have sneered at this work of reform, and have said it was all unnecessary; that it was an excitement to divert minds from present truth. They have said that matters were being carried to extremes. Such do not know what they are talking about. While men and women professing godliness are diseased from the crown of their head to the soles of their feet, while their physical, mental, and moral energies are enfeebled through gratification of depraved appetite and excessive labor, how can they weigh the evidences of truth, and comprehend the requirements of God? If their moral and intellectual faculties are beclouded, they cannot appreciate the value of the atonement or the exalted character of the work of God, nor delight in the study of His word. How can a nervous dyspeptic be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh him a reason of the hope that is in him, with meekness and fear? How soon would such a one become confused and agitated, and by his diseased imagination be led to view matters in altogether a wrong light, and by a lack of that meekness and calmness which characterized the life of Christ, be caused to dishonor his profession while contending with unreasonable men? Viewing matters from high religious standpoint, we must be thorough reformers in order to be Christlike.

I saw that our heavenly Father has bestowed upon us the great blessing of light upon the health reform, that we may obey the claims which He has upon us, and glorify Him in our bodies and spirits, which are His, and finally stand without fault before the throne of God.

According to what she said here until we have received the reformed dietary laws, her dietary laws, we were unable to stand without fault before God.

Yeah in the post before this I quoted her again and it seems that some people pointed out that her views were too extreme. Obviously the living conditions alone during the biblical times were far more unhealthy than the 19th century and yet thousands of people were saved. I can’t help but get this picture of the Pharisees and the tax collector as I listen to her writings. It’s just over and over if people don’t do everything the way I do they’re not reconcile to God. It’s just a constant I’m holier than everyone else mentality.

I do not even agree that White defined a healthy diet properly. I think her kind of diet causes many problems. For example, the modern nutrition claims that we need quite a high protein intake for a healthy longevity.

In summary, Ellen White did not explicitly say “do not eat meat” or advocate for a complete ban on meat eating. Her views were more focused on promoting a balanced diet and considering individual needs, rather than making sweeping moral or spiritual judgments about meat consumption.

"Ellen White on Meat Avoidance

Based on the provided search results, Ellen White’s stance on meat eating is nuanced and not dogmatic. Here are some key points:
  1. Initially, Ellen White did not receive a clear vision or instruction from God regarding the eating of meat. Her first vision on the topic, received in 1863, focused on the relationship between meat eating and health, not morality or spirituality.
  2. Over time, Ellen White’s views on meat eating evolved. While she did not explicitly condemn meat eating, she encouraged a balanced diet and emphasized the importance of considering individual digestive health and needs.
  3. In 1894, Ellen White declared that “a meat diet is not the most wholesome of diets” and that some people might need to eat meat due to feeble digestive organs. However, she did not advocate for a complete ban on meat eating.
  4. There are instances where Ellen White herself ate meat, including venison and oysters, despite her later advocacy for a more vegetarian diet. This has led some critics to accuse her of hypocrisy.
  5. Ellen White never signed a “pledge to her heavenly Father” to abstain from meat eating, as some sources claim. Instead, she drew up a pledge to her family to avoid meat eating at home, but this did not extend to all situations or individuals.
In summary, Ellen White did not explicitly say “do not eat meat” or advocate for a complete ban on meat eating. Her views were more focused on promoting a balanced diet and considering individual needs, rather than making sweeping moral or spiritual judgments about meat consumption."

This is another red flag because God doesn’t choose someone to give a message who will fail to give the message correctly. He’s omniscient which means He knew whether she would understand the message or not before creation. What this sounds like to me is that she finally realized the problem with what she’d said so she had to go have another vision to fix it.

I don’t know about her later writings but so far in the Councils of Diet and Food she hasn’t said that eating meat in small portions or in moderation is acceptable. Her stance has repeatedly been that eating meat corrupts the body, clouds the intellect, as well as spiritual and moral discernment. Her position repeatedly appears to be that anything outside of her definition of the reformed diet renders a person completely incapable of serving God and has a direct impact on their very salvation. And this is not limited to meat but also salt, butter, cakes, pies, and alcohol. And I haven’t even started posting about her writings on the reformed dress code which is very similar. I remember her saying that a dress being two inches longer adds excess weight to the hips and bowels causing disease which is just beyond ridiculous. And of course anything that causes disease renders a person incapable of moral and spiritual discernment according to her. It’s a wonder how anyone ever served God in the biblical times when sanitation was significantly less during those days. Four of Paul’s epistles were written while he was in prison where sanitary conditions were extremely bad and yet he still somehow managed to write his epistles that we now call the inspired word of God. So apparently he didn’t have any problems with spiritual discernment as a result of unsanitary conditions. He even wrote in Galatians 4:13-14 that he first preached the gospel to them when he was sick.

“but you know that it was because of a bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the first time; and that which was a trial to you in my bodily condition you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I highly doubt that Paul had any problems with morality or spiritual discernment as a result of his sickness.

I’ve been listening to some of the writings of Ellen White to get a better idea of what she actually taught and found quite a few disturbing things regarding her “Reformed Diet”. She claims that eating meat, butter, cakes, and pies inhibits our Spiritual discernment, moral discernment, scriptural discernment, as well as blemishes our soul rendering us as “pitiful and feeble offerings” when we are presented before God. She claims that eating these things are displeasing to God. One thing I find interesting is that God specifically commanded the Israelites to eat meat during the Passover celebration. It was nonnegotiable. Every household was commanded to slaughter a goat and everyone in the household was commanded to eat all of it in haste nonstop until all of it was completely consumed. None of it was allowed to be left over or discarded. She also rebuked some of the women in her congregation for baking cakes and pies in preparation of the Sabbath saying that too much effort went into these pastries that should’ve been spent on Spiritual development. But in Leviticus 24 God actually commanded the Israelites to bake 12 cakes in preparation of the Sabbath and it was to be observed for every Sabbath. These cakes were not to be eaten but instead to be placed on the alter but nonetheless they were commanded to be prepared in preparation of every Sabbath. From what I can see according to the scriptures, her teachings on the subject of the Reformed Diet are contradictory to what the Bible teaches us about Christ’s atonement, the effect meat has on a person spiritually, God’s view on our diet, and God’s expectations in preparation of the Sabbath. It would seem to me that people who are drawn in by this theology are lacking some very fundamental knowledge of the scriptures. What passages of scripture do you think can either support or contradict this theology? Heres a link to the list of YouTube videos of her writings I got this information from.

Perhaps in excess.
In that case though so would to many soy burgers or soy hotdogs etc.
That list however made me hungry and I know there is a pumpkin and an apple pie in the fridge.
With or without whipped cream?
Hmm.

Mat 15:11
It is not what enters the mouth that defiles the person, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles the person.”

Perhaps it is mentioned, but I missed that part.
Where is it posted or written that diet is a means of salvation ?
At 22:22 into the video Ellen White makes this statement.

I saw that our heavenly Father has bestowed upon us the great blessing of light upon the health reform, that we may obey the claims which He has upon us, and glorify Him in our bodies and spirits, which are His, and finally stand without fault before the throne of God.

At 23:41 she also says this

There are but few as yet who are aroused sufficiently to understand how much their habits of diet have to do with their health, their characters, their usefulness in this world, and their eternal destiny.

Then there’s the quotes I posted in posts 29, 30, & 33.

Personally I don’t interpret that particular passage to mean that we can eat anything we want because that specific event was in reference to the Gentiles not food. But there are several other passages that clearly state that we are allowed to eat anything. Romans 14 and Colossians 2:16 are a couple.
It seems to me that Acts 10 are an evidence that the Mosaic dietary laws (clean/unclean animals) were not about health or anything like that, but symbolized the separation between Jews and Gentiles.

Thats why God removed this separation with the vision that there is no unclean animal food anymore. The vision would not make much sense otherwise.

That certainly could be the case. The reason I don’t try to use Acts 10 is because it’s easily dismissed. Romans 14 is absolutely about food and so is Colossians 2:16. They’re irrefutable.

No matter who says it, it is quite common daily, widespread, for
Christians and non-Christians to get sick because of what they've been taught and what they've eaten and what they drank
since the day they were born.
This surprises people deceived by darkness.

Hello! If I were to be double-advocate I would say:

I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet (1 Timothy 2:12).

This passage contradicts Ellen White's theology.

God Bless ;)

You know what? I voluntarily choose not to eat gluten. But it's because I respond poorly to it. Maybe she responds poorly to gluten in pies and cakes, and needs to be a vegan. HERSELF. She can choose what she wants to eat or doesn't want to eat, and that's fine but to impose this on other people doesn't sit well with me.

According to her she isn’t the one imposing it on us, she claims that God is. That’s why I started this discussion because I’ve never studied any of her writings until just a few days ago and so far what I’m seeing isn’t convincing. She seems to be making a lot of claims that are contradictory to scripture.
