  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When will the result be known?

Of course the answer depends on how close the result will be and when the polls close - 10pm in the UK and most seats counted into the small hours.

In the UK there is a very accurate exit poll where voters are asked how they voted immediately after voting. So the problem of turnout is removed and use is made of past exit polls which are related to the actual past results to reduce selection bias. There is still the drama of results in individual seats with rosette wearing candidates behind the returning officer whose voice is always drowned out by cheers when the result becomes clear. It seems that the US election won't have that kind of drama, but may well have the drama of a close result and its consequences.

I was wondering when it was called in 2016 and came across this which I found interesting:

December 2016

[edit]
  • December 19 – The electors of the Electoral College meet in their respective capitals and formally cast their ballots. Trump receives 304 electoral votes, Clinton receives 227. Seven faithless electors cast their votes for other candidates.[236]
