  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hopefully we can agree that violence from either side is not good.
I don't know. Things are so poisoned and polarized right now I think the partisans will find a way to justify their own violence while vociferously condemning the violence of the other side. I'm not on either side and I see both sides prone to violence, promoting violence, and they're scaring me. We will be blessed indeed if this nation doesn't collapse over this election. The rhetoric is just too heated to remain peaceful.

Two Weeks Before the Meltdown Begins

COMMENTARY
By Frank Miele
October 21, 2024

I wouldn’t be much of a political pundit if I weren’t willing to share my prediction for what will happen in 15 days when one of the most important presidential elections in history is decided.

So here goes: Donald Trump will win, and he will win convincingly. But that doesn’t mean the progressive left won’t have a meltdown. Just as in 2016, when Trump was first elected president, the media will be dismayed, the Democrats will be shocked, and there will be protests in the streets, possibly violent. Congressional Democrats such as Jamie Raskin will try to prevent Trump from being sworn in by declaring him an insurrectionist.

Seven so-called battleground states are supposed to decide the election: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona. But even more important will be the experience of the American people, who in large measure have come to regret the election that put Joe Biden in the White House four years ago.

That is the underlying story that the media will never acknowledge. Polling within the last year shows that less than one-third of Republicans believe Biden is the legitimate president, and 36% of all Americans have doubts about the 2020 election. That is only a feeling, not a fact, but feelings decide presidential elections, and the almost gleeful anti-American thrust of Biden’s presidency has given more than 60% of potential voters a feeling that we are on the wrong track as a nation.

...................................

So, yes, Trump will be elected as the 47th president of the United States, and the liberal talking heads will melt down just as they did in 2016. But what matters most is what happens after the election, and whether the experience of Americans will reflect renewed prosperity, a safer world, and respect for tradition and common sense. Many will try to prevent that, but making America great again should be a unifying goal. “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

And if I am wrong and Kamala Harris becomes the 47th president, I pray that divine providence takes hold of her and guides her to protect, defend, and strengthen these United States and their Constitution. Seems like a long shot, but without Trump, prayer is all we got.

To not cry would not be normal?

I don’t like Trump that much BY ANY MEANS, but I’d MUCH RATHER have him in office than Harris.

It’s a tough decision.

I highly doubt the POTUS cares about someone’s opinion, but that’s just me.

You'd rather a man who is obsessed with Arnold Palmer's penis be in office over Harris? If so, you're not right in the head. I'm actually surprised that no one started a post regarding his transparent McDonald's visit, and his long-winded spiel about Palmer's genitalia .

Could we possibly agree that both big parties are epic failures in who they nominated to be president?

What makes you think Trump is obsessed about that? Got any quotes from Trump to back up your claim?

Well, um, er, he mentioned it once. If that isn’t absolute proof he is totally obsessed with it I don’t know what is.

Trump isn't 'obsesssed' with (blank). He just made a joke, at his rally, amongst his supporters ... his friends.
I heard it as it happened. It was just a joke.
And some of us listening found it to be silly, and funny.

... With all the seriousness going on in politics at this time, sometimes abit of humor tossed into the mix is like a welcome dose of 'medicine'.

It wasn't funny at all. Not sure how you think it is. He's gross obviously.
We are entitled to have different opinions, aren't we??
(Last I checked, this is still America!

There's a whole laundry list of behaviors which are encouraged by the far left and far right that I find disturbing - with many of them being reflected in this thread.

  1. When wrong is done by someone in your political party, and it is pointed out - don't acknowledge it as wrong... just point out something their party did wrong instead. (Deflection and lack of accountability).
  2. Excusing or encouraging violence (race riots of 2020, the January 6th storming of the capital). Again - hypocrisy and lack of accountability.
  3. Playing the victim wherever you can, even when its wildly unwarranted.
  4. Make accusations/spread lies without evidence (stolen 2020 election), and take no responsibility when those lies cause death and destruction.
  5. Complain about the other party trying to control your personal life (abortion restrictions), while also doing the same to them. (Trying to use OSHA to implement vaccine mandates in non-medical workplaces, encouraging schools to push LGBTQ agendas against the wishes of many parents). And that goes both ways - both parties complain about the other party being overly controlling, then turn around and do it themselves on their issues of choice.

That^^ makes me think that we're already seeing signs of a mental health crisis - and it isn't unique to one party or the other. Above all, those are the things that worry me the most - but my hope is that once we move through the turmoil of the election, people will move on with their day to day lives. (Until the next election).

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Political idolatry is rampant in the American church (not to mention American society at large), and Christians need to stop pushing political affiliations and voting like it's some ultimate expression of your faith, because it's not.

I also think we are already a nation suffering a mental health crisis. We've really been in trouble, since the covid experience. Nothing in America has been the same since.

I hope the turmoil stops after the election, but seriously doubt that it will. People don't usually just become 'healthy again', overnite.

I think it would be swell if pastors began addressing this mental health crisis in their churches. Maybe some are. I hope.

Right, when Trumpers were pretending Jan 6 didn't happen, you know how mentally messed up these people really are. I work with the public, and I come across these behaviors daily. We criticize them after they leave , shake our heads at them, etc.

Yeah, in our back water town, some guy is selling Trump merch on the side of the road. I find people who wear political apparel, esp. big flags on their boats when out boating, rather disturbing.

Jan. 6th obviously happened, just like all the other days of that year.
The issue is whether the one focused-upon event that day is as described by the MSM and everyone else who hates Trump so much.

Sorry, the whole "everyone is entitled to their opinions" trope doesn't hold water here.

America is still the land of the free and the home of the brave.

... and it will continue to be, under a President Trump.

It really not polite to discuss the size of other men’s genitalia.
I agree, it is not polite.

Trump sometimes isn't very polite, but, if he wins the election, perhaps he will help keep America from getting into WWIII.

You mean by giving Ukraine long range missiles and aircraft that are being used to attack Moscow, and making that known publicly?
Hint: Trump hasn't done that.

Fear of election violence, ‘civil war’ surge

The nation’s largest network of survival camps is urging its members to spend Election Day inside its guarded fences due to growing concerns about political violence and civil war.

Fortitude Ranch, which has several established and planned off-the-grid prepper resorts, issued its call after pollsters reported surging fears of violence from the losing side in next month’s presidential election.

“If you are a Fortitude Ranch survival community member, they are going to be open on Election Day so members who are in areas of high risk of post-election protest violence can take refuge. Fortitude Ranch staff does not consider the likelihood of immediate post-election violence or ‘civil war’ to be high, but there is a strong likelihood of some violence by the 50% or more of the population that will be very angry with the Nov. 5 results,” said the organization on its “Collapse Survivor” app.

“The election results are likely to be contested, and there could be weeks of protests and post-election violence. There is no way to predict how violent or widespread this could become. But it could quickly develop and get out of control. If police are tied up with public protests, gang members and criminals know this is an ideal time for them to loot. If the post-election violence is bad and looting takes off, there is a chance that it could escalate into home invasions and marauding,” it added.

They, the old 'basket of deplorables' were in 2020 merely being deplorable ... in a basket. Hillary wanted re-education camps for you. Don't think you couldn't be locked up in a FEMA trailer camp surrounded by concertina barbed wire. Just on the off chance you might not like the election outcome if somehow the election outcome doesn't go your way. FEMA may be broke, but I'm sure they have the capacity to lock up a few million deplorables.
