  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump secretly sent covid tests to Putin during 2020 shortage

....and may have spoken with Putin seven times since Trump left the White House in 2020. This, according to an unnamed Trump aide in Bob Wooward's upcoming book:

Putin, petrified of the virus, accepted the supplies but took pains to prevent political fallout — not for him, but for his American counterpart. He cautioned Trump not to reveal that he had dispatched the scarce medical equipment to Moscow, according to a new book by Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward.

Putin, according to the book, told Trump, “I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me.”

In early 2024, the former president ordered an aide away from his office at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida, so he could conduct a private phone call with the Russian leader, according to Woodward’s account.
I guess that Trumps secret calls to Putin, as well as Putin's secret words on his end weren't so secret. Seriously, so what? Covid tests are a job perk. And if you make nice with another world leader, it helps to create a more amiable relationship. I don't see a problem.

Nope. She refused a debate set for early September. She simply refused to do it. After the performance with Bret Baier, we now know why.

He goes anywhere and everywhere, friendly or not friendly. Other than the single Baier interview in which Harris was completely unable and unwilling to answer even one question, instead repeating memorized campaign lines completely irrelevant to the question, she has only entered friendly, fawning outlets.

It is not fooling any thinking person.

I know... "THE LA TIMES IS LYING!!" Sure.

He goes anywhere and everywhere, friendly or not friendly.
Except he won't debate Harris again. Don't blame him, really...

No ability to know that this was the topic of those meetings but at least there is an acknowledgement of its existence.

A world leader invades and compromises the sovereignty of another nation; of COURSe we should be giving them things to get on their good side?

Sorry Neville Chamberlain. That doesn't fly.

Putin took Crimea and entered Syria to help Assad under Obama's watch. Putin didn't do anything aggressive when Trump was President. He began the war with Ukraine under Bidens watch. Every President plays their own game. And sending covid test kits to Putin (if he really did) hardly put our national security at risk. So reporting it as if it were somehow evil, is just another attempt to smear Trump with innuendo because they lack anything of substance against him. FWIW, Trump also sent ventilators and other personal protection equipment to other nations around the world.

It's not evil.
Nor is sending COVID test to Putin a nation security risk.

However, Trump's actions, incuding the alleged private conversations with Putin after he left office, is certainly cause for concern from a national security perspective. In 2 weeks, American just may elect a man who has private conversations with one of our greatest foes.

He has not denied it:

"Can you say yes or no whether you have talked to Vladimir Putin since you stopped being president?

“I don’t comment on that,” Trump responded. “But I will tell you that if I did, it’s a smart thing. If I’m friendly with people, if I can have a relationship with people, that’s a good thing and not a bad thing in terms of a country.”

Why would Putin do it when his guy was in the Oval Office? That would make no sense at all.

With that rationale, an obedient Son is evidence of a bad Father. That makes no sense.

Well, anything is possible I suppose. But if past conduct is an indicator of future conduct. Then Trumps style seems to have worked with Putin because he played nice while Trump was President. But he didn't play nice with Obama and Biden. One could even make a case that Obama was Putin's puppet.

"Obidient" sons can get made because their father beats them into fear.

IT's FAAAAAR from impossible. Frankly, is likely probable.

Either way, Putin played nice when Trump was President as opposed to Obama or Biden.

Puppet?
Shall we revisit the Helsinki press conference when Trump publicly threw U.S. Intelligence Agencies under the Putin bus?
Throughout Trump's presidency, he was noticeably deferential to Putin. He publicly declared it was "Okay" for Russia to keep Crimea. And now, Trump declares he could end the Russia / Ukraine War before he takes office. Well, I have no doubt Trump could reach a deal with Putin directly, and surrender Ukrainian territory to Putin.

Trump's collective actions toward Russia amount to appeasement.

Trump sent the tests at a time when there was a shortage for his own people. He sent them at a time when there was a shortage here and he disparaged testing saying he didn’t like testing because the more testing, the more cases they uncover. His brilliant reasoning was in effect, if you don’t know, it doesn’t exist. In order to keep his numbers low. America had one of the highest covid death rates among developed countries with Russia having one of the worst.

His handling of the crisis was abominable, an absolute disaster.

More like a compliant underling. Trump has always kowtowed to Putin, even to the point of denying U.S. intelligence findings to endorse Putin's word.

Whether or not it's true that Putin got kompromat on Trump during his stay in Moscow, it's true that Trump has acted as though he does.

It wasn't intentional. He was confused and didn't know what to do. Promising it was going to go away "like a miracle", suggesting injecting people with disinfectant, or whatever, he was clearly in over his head on that crisis. With the inevitable results.

If, early in the spring, the U.S. had mobilized its ample resources and expertise in a coherent national effort to prepare for the virus, things might have turned out differently. If, in midsummer, the country had doubled down on the measures (masks, social-distancing rules, restricted indoor activities and public gatherings) that seemed to be working, instead of prematurely declaring victory, things might have turned out differently. The tragedy is that if science and common sense solutions were united in a national, coordinated response, the U.S. could have avoided many thousands of more deaths this summer.

Indeed, many other countries in similar situations were able to face this challenge where the U.S. apparently could not. Italy, for example, had a similar per capita case rate as the U.S. in April. By emerging slowly from lockdowns, limiting domestic and foreign travel, and allowing its government response to be largely guided by scientists, Italy has kept COVID-19 almost entirely at bay. In that same time period, U.S. daily cases doubled, before they started to fall in late summer.

Among the world’s wealthy nations, only the U.S. has an outbreak that continues to spin out of control. Of the 10 worst-hit countries, the U.S. has the seventh-highest number of deaths per 100,000 population; the other nine countries in the top 10 have an average per capita GDP of $10,195, compared to $65,281 for the U.S.

The Pandemic response team assembled by President Obama had been dissolved by Trump, because... well, because it was assembled by President Obama. So we were completely unprepared. And then the extreme right came up with all sorts of fruitcake conspiracy theories, some of which were taken up by people who had influence with Trump. Fortunately, in the middle of the disaster, Trump had a fit of common sense, and moved to accelerate the development of a vaccine. So it wasn't a complete disaster.

Yeah, okay, spitefully, ignorantly dismissing the pandemic response team was a misstep but he actually did help with the vaccine funding.
