Melania Trump made an extraordinary declaration in an eagerly awaited memoir to be published a month from election day: she is a passionate supporter of a woman’s right to control her own body – including the right to abortion. The Guardian obtained a copy.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

Melania Trump says her beliefs about abortion rights spring from “a core set of principles”, at the heart of which sits “individual liberty” and “personal freedom”, on which there is “no room for negotiation”.

She writes: “It is important to note that historically, most abortions conducted during the later stages of pregnancy were the result of severe fetal abnormalities that probably would have led to the death or stillbirth of the child. Perhaps even the death of the mother. These cases were extremely rare and typically occurred after several consultations between the woman and her doctor. As a community, we should embrace these common-sense standards."

“The slogan ‘My Body, My Choice’ is typically associated with women activists and those who align with the pro-choice side of the debate,” she writes. “But if you really think about it, ‘My Body, My Choice’ applies to both sides – a woman’s right to make an independent decision involving her own body, including the right to choose life. Personal freedom.”

According to the Guardian report:

Donald Trump provides a blurb, praising his wife’s “commitment to excellence … insightful perspective … [and] entrepreneurial achievements”.
Six words never before uttered by Trump in public. I might have expected it to be 'a great book - the greatest book in the history of the world'. Maybe he had his ghost writer handle it.

I wonder if some Republicans will start calling for her to be denied the Eucharist.

Well, her marriage isn’t sacramentally valid according to the Church, so I wonder if she even receives the Eucharist or not.

I think people will be more interested in the apparent conflict of this part of her book with her husband's position. I doubt if many care very much about her attendance at church.

Good for her, for espousing her beliefs. This is (purportedly) a free country, where people can disagree and still conduct normal business. Only the unhinged fear, stop talking to, and shun people who believe differently.

You’re probably right. Neither one probably care.

I doubt she attends a Catholic church any longer. All the evidence seems to be she goes with Trump to an Episcopal Church in Mar-a-Lago once in a while.

Republicans don't control this. Catholic Bishops do. Melania isn't Catholic...so no.
Biden has continued to get the Eucharist, despite not being in good standing due to promulgating anti-Catholic doctrine, so ....doubt it applies to anyone else.

Actually, Biden is in good standing with the Catholic Church. He attends church regularly and receives the sacraments.

Some bishops and priests would certainly disagree.

If anything, he should refrain from Holy Communion.

She’s Catholic in name only and isn’t sacramentally married. I doubt she receives holy communion anyway, if she goes at all.

I didn't say that he Biden did not take the sacraments. However, Catholic moral teaching holds that abortion is the unjust taking of an innocent life.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law" (No. 2271).

The decision making rests in the local Bishop to uphold church teaching or make accommodations.

You are 100% correct.

It's also sacrilegious to take Holy Communion in unrepentant mortal sin.

There is, I believe, a forum dedicated to Roman Catholic issues of this sort. This, however, is not it.

But for what it is worth, I don't agree that abortion is Satanic. Just as I have never found any convincing evidence for the existence of God, so I equally doubt the existence of Satan or Moloch, angels, demons, cherubs or succubi.. Or ghosts. Or fairies.

I don't much care how observant Melania Trump is - or Biden, for that matter.

It’s completely related since Melania claims to be Catholic.
