  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now, residents across the southeastern United States are suffering from the administration’s misplaced priorities, which place “equity” and “climate resilience” ahead of emergency preparedness. While FEMA routinely prepares for colossal rescue operations with resources lined up in the days ahead of major storms, such pre-staged support was clearly not available to residents in the Appalachian towns that were washed away by overwhelming rains from Hurricane Helene. Hundreds remain missing as the storm becomes the Biden administration’s “Katrina moment.”

FEMA should have gone in and rescued stranded people by helicopter. Area after area says they have not seen anyone from FEMA.

That's so awesome that individuals are doing all that. So glad to see these stories..

Can't believe they tried stopping that man from helping people who needed help. It's just mind boggling this let them die mentality the government from the local level on up seems to have towards Americans these days. It started with don't feed the homeless and it's escalated to don't try and rescue the dying. .

Approved Emergency Declarations Before Landfall

Friday September 27, 2024

Before Helene made landfall, the Governors of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina submitted emergency declaration requests that President Biden swiftly approved. These declarations authorized FEMA to provide assistance for emergency measures to save lives, protect property, public health and safety, and fund other emergency response measures. The Federal government proactively pre-positioned personnel and resources across the region before Hurricane Helene made landfall, including power restoration teams for temporary emergency power, search and rescue equipment, meals, water, generators, and equipment to assist communities and states with impacts from the storm.

At the President’s direction, before Helene made landfall, 1,500 Federal personnel were deployed to the region.

Urban Search and Rescue has deployed a total of 14 teams (940 personnel) to affected states. In Florida, eight teams are positioned to respond, and all are equipped with Swift Water Rescue Capabilities. In Georgia, two teams with water capability have been deployed to support rescue operations. In North Carolina, four teams all equipped with Swift Water Rescue Capabilities are in place.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has two teams prepositioned to provide temporary emergency power, with additional personnel deployed and other are prepared to deploy if needed.

The Federal government pre-staged more than 2.7 million meals, 1.6 million liters of water, 50,000 tarps, 10,000 cots, and 20,000 blankets in the region to support sheltering needs in impacted communities.

FEMA pre-positioned tanker trucks with 70,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 40,000 gallons of gasoline to surge to impacted communities once the storm has passed to help alleviate any fuel shortages.

Prior to the storm, FEMA also helped source hundreds of ambulances to assist with the movement of any patients out of impacted hospitals or other facilities.

FEMA should have gone in and rescued stranded people by helicopter. Area after area says they have not seen anyone from FEMA.
The land area in NC alone that has been affected by flooding is more than 7,000 square miles. It's going to take time to reach everyone.

"Friends can I ask a small favor? Will you all help STOP this conspiracy theory junk that is floating all over Facebook and the internet about the floods in WNC... This is a catastrophic event of which this country has never known. It is the largest crisis event in the history of N.C. The state is working non-stop. DOT has deployed workers from all over the state. Duke power has 10,000 workers on this. FEMA is here. The National Guard is here in large numbers. My Senate district is 8 counties and it takes 3 hours to drive across it in good weather…. And this disaster is 25 counties in N.C. This is going to take MONTHS if not years to overcome." -- Kevin Corbin, Republican member of the North Carolina Senate

Hurricanes almost always lose steam when they reach land. Helene hit areas far inland, probably for the first time in recorded meteorlogical history.

Just as FEMA wouldn't put advance flood resources hundreds of miles from the nearest river, so they did not prepare for hurricane damage in Tennessee.

Such is the unpredictability of natural disasters exacerbated by climate change...and transferring to green energy will have a positive effect.

Maybe they don't realize that FEMA coordinates with other federal, state, and local agencies during disasters. Members from local fire departments, local and state law enforcement, and national guardsmen are who they are most likely to first encounter. Just because the people they see don't have a FEMA hat on doesn't mean FEMA isn't involved.

The western part of NC that saw flooding is larger than the entire island of Puerto Rico. It's also very rugged terrain, with many small towns, communities, and houses scattered in vallies and on mountainsides. Some of these places are connected by single-lane gravel roads that can be a challenge to reach during a summer thunderstorm. It will no doubt be several more days before some of the more remote communities and families living in western North Carolina are reached.

Yes, it is true.

Numerous persons interviewed on multiple news stations, as recent as last nite (Thursday), have said they've seen no FEMA personnel.

The scope and area coverage of this disaster is unprecedented, and if people are expecting someone from FEMA to show up in everyone's backyard or every community within a week, they are expecting too much. FEMA is there, the Red Cross is there, and the National Guard is there, as are many first responders and rescue crews. I was born in NC and have spent most of my life in NC. There have been several natural disasters to hit this state during my lifetime. I can't recall there ever being a faster or more coordinated response from local, state, and federal agencies than what's taking place right now. There has also been a huge response from individuals, churches, and charitable organizations like I've never seen before.

Why are we not helping our American citizens? Homeless Vets, our children going hungry in schools; no school lunches. Fund the police and provide adequate training. Create job opportunities; help our nation get jobs by investing our tax dollars where it will help build a better America. Instead though with these liberals who are going off the rails with abortion, LGBTQ++++++ being taught in schools to our kids that need education not elicit sexual content is mind boggling. Help secure our boarders, and protect our nation, from threats of crime.

What Christian would deny humanitarian services to a human being. Has God hardened hearts? Do they now believe a lie? Let us reason people. If you are against helping the poor, weak and helpless you do it against our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Repent, change your mind. I was once like you, I know.
Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me" in Matthew 25:40.

Because of the lack of money that had been allocated for such emergencies indeed people did not get the help from the storm they needed and a number died as a result. Families can only grieve. Actions have consequences. The administration released billions of dollars to Iran on the foreign scene which ends up funding terrorism, and on the domestic seen has policies that allocate money (earmarked by Congress for other purposes) that has enriched the cartels and gangs that run drugs and human trafficking, and brought in many with violent backgrounds that prey upon the weak in our society. The administration covered up a lot of their actions until they were caught (the secret flights, etc.) and we need to start holding such "leaders" accountable. I wonder if they ever think of the long term devastation of the children who are sexually abused, haunted their entire lives.

Blatant misuse of funds ... it's a tragedy. There are also reports that FEMA is hindering/interfering with rescue efforts from people (citizens) and some charitable entities outside of FEMA. They should be working WITH these people .... not against them.

Elon Musk on X:

"SpaceX engineers are trying to deliver Starlink terminals & supplies to devastated areas in North Carolina right now and @FEMA is both failing to help AND won’t let others help. This is unconscionable!!

They just took this video a few hours ago, where you can see the level of devastation: roads, houses, electricity, water supply and ground Internet connections completely destroyed.

@FEMA wouldn’t let them land to deliver critical supplies … my blood is boiling …

Fat chance. People will use death and disaster for political ends. Shameful. And this takes the biscuit:

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a sitting congresswoman, tweeted on Friday: “Yes they can control the weather. It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.” She did not specify who “they” referred to. She had previously tweeted a map of the areas devastated by the hurricane overlaid with an electoral map to show which way these areas have voted. Hurricane Helene conspiracy theories collide with election misinformation

What are fools like that doing in Congress?

Incidentally, as regards FEMA money being redirected to immigrants, from the same link:

'The migrant claim, however, is unrelated to Fema’s budget concerns. A separate fund, the Shelter and Services Program, administered by Fema per Congress’s directive, provides reimbursements to local governments as they deal with increased costs associated with an influx of migrants, Reichlin-Melnick said. It does not take money from disaster response. This fund started in 2019 under Trump’s administration.'

There's also a laser weapon in our orbit as well.

A over-watch committee needs to be assembled to monitor funds being dispersed and spend accordingly. An Orange county supervisor Andrew Do is accused of funneling more than 10M to a nonprofit run by his daughter. Siphoning this Covid relief funds intended for meals for the elderly and people with disabilities. I have often inquired about how are these funds monitored and held accountable? Poor management and check and balances, if you ask me.
