  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Melania Trump is reportedly set to voice strong support for reproductive rights, writing in her new memoir that a “woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty” grants her “the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.”

In a copy of “Melania” obtained by The Guardian’s Martin Pengelly ahead of its release next Tuesday, the former first lady writes, “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

It surprised, and saddened, me, to come across the above article last night.

Melania's book will be released on October 8th, less than a month before the election.
Apparently, she is very open and honest in it.

I expect this revelation in her book to be a subject of much discussion now, amongst pro-lifers.

I really don't understand the release of this book, and this information, at this time.

But apparently, she and the former president have differing opinions on this issue ...
at least according to what she's written in the book.

I'm not surprised honestly but I'm surprised this was released before the election. Nancy Reagan was pro choice to I believe.
I shouldn't have been surprised that Melania is pro-choice, but I was. (Call me 'Naive".)

But to release this information so close to the election? Knowing it would make the headlines all over the internet? There has to be a strategy behind it, but we'd only be guessing at what that strategy might be.

Melania is very intelligent. I don't for a minute think that she'd want to do anything to deliberately sabotage her husband's campaign ... so there must be a strategy, right? I just hope they've calculated things rightly about all of this, or else she may have just helped her husband lose the election. (This news doesn't affect my vote, but other pro-lifers might not see it the same way.)

p.s.
Thanks for the reminder about Nancy Reagan. I had forgotten that.

That's sad. Her husband was very pro-life.

Reproductive rights? why don't they just speak plainly. Abortion.

I sincerely hope she goes to confession and repents, and gets her marriage sacramentally recognized if her husband ever converts, God willing.

Melania and Donald don't have different opinions on this matter. He doesn't care. He's saying and doing what's required of him as the Republican candidate. The conservatives want far stricter abortion laws, and in many cases they want it outlawed. *raises hand*. Never think we're voting for a good, honest man. None of these politicians are truthful and they all say what they need to say from the perspective of their party for power. He's a better man than almost any of these Democrats, but that's a very low bar. Trump is the lesser of the evils by far. Nothing more. Christians need to stop expecting more. We're never going to get it. This is worldly power we're talking about.

Why do you think they decided to break this news now, with the new book ... less than a month from the election? (Your thoughts?)

Yup. There's a reason why politics and religion don't mix, in my opinion. Politics is controlled by the world. Christians aren't meant to be world or conform to its ways.

Maybe I'm rambling.

I believe he only ran as "pro life." in 2016 to get the evangelical and Catholic vote and no Republican can be pro choice and win the Presidency or even a primary(see Rudy Guiliani in 2008). On the other hand he could have had a genuine conversion to the issue and he did do some good things for pro life during his Presidency(the judicial appointments mostly)but nothing no other conservative would have done. I'm wondering why is this being released NOW when no Democrat is going to vote for him because of this, but he ,may lose the votes of some pro-lifers who will stay home or vote 3rd party.

I'm thinking that he's trying to win votes from those who would stay away from him because he's too "pro-life." or because they are skittish of
project 2025. Also Melania has hosted the Log Cabin Republicans twice recently.

That would seem the most obvious answer, so maybe it's as simple as that ...

That's my concern. In attempting to win some votes, he may lose others.
