  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think there are benefits for bible theology school

I want to study theology in bible school because I think my faith is rusty now as not developing it and reading apologetics books again that I forget knowledge I had before that I think there is the danger of having a non big rooted faith that can not explain make good apologetics such as why all humans die because of adams sin. I know we need christ because we all sin and christ knows we all would eventually with long time but why God did not let everyone be born the same as adam not yet sinning and being big rooted I think may also help in one being more fruitful.

You might find a theology school could be somewhat restrictive. For example many young men go to seminary excited to learn more and deepen their faith. Often instead they end up imprinted with a particular brand or denominational stamp. They are often sent out as sort of "franchise holders" to defend the brand as pastors of churches. The enthusiasm they had for questioning and learning is often lost in this process.

You might do better searching out answers to your questions as a hobby together with simply learning more about the bible. One can start with a simple question such as, "Was the Great Commission given to Israel or the church?"

In regard to various creation possibilities you might find the following link of interest;

The page seems down at the moment but the site Christian Pioneer has some interesting articles when it is up. There are many other resources for independent study. I suggest the free software esword as it allows the comparison of various translations as well as tools to examine the original language,

A good commentary on a particular book of the bible should give you several different views of a particular verse which can open all sorts of lines of inquiry. I think you will find more satisfaction in digging into bible study on your own that in environment where you might be "spoon fed" a single perspective.

Hi Mike (@mikeforjesus), I'll answer you title question with a resounding "yes" (a good education comes with MANY benefits). That said (and as @timf said), there are many other ways these days to increase your knowledge and understanding of the faith that are simpler and require far less effort and $$ than attending seminary would.

I don't have time to talk right now, but I should this evening, so (hopefully) we'll be able to talk then (Dv).

God bless you!!

Only His Holy Spirit can teach you the truth of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. Theology is the branch of knowledge that has the habit of taking His truth and manipulate it for flesh driven agendas. That being said, Theology can be a good thing if it follows in step with the teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth the Cornerstone of our faith with the Apostles and Prophets. The moral of this story is....maintain a high degree of decernment. This can only be achieve through His Holy Spirit who dwells in the believer.
Blessings

It depends on what you are looking for.
If you care about the truth, and want it, and are looking for it, then being taught by God, is the way to go, rather than theological school.
Matthew 11:25-30; John 4:44, 45; Acts 4:13
Studying the Bible will give you answers from the Bible.

There are many approaches to the Bible and many denominations and many different beliefs. Any school of theology will most likely fall into a camp. Where do you stand? Before you enroll anywhere read this book: Layman's Guide to Protestant Theology book by William E. Hordern

Then, you can ask questions of the school. Where they stand on the Conservative - Liberal - radical spectrum and where you want to be.

You're going to learn their system of interpretation for the bible. The measure of latitude you're permitted to deviate differs for each. But if you have denominational leanings you're better off attending a school connected to it.

I'm an educator, so I think schools are great. :)

If you're looking for an alternative to schools or online resources, though, let me suggest reading books that go beyond apologetics. You could read a Systematic Theology. You could read some Bible commentaries. You could read books on the history of the early church and the history of your particular denomination. You could read some of the theological books written by influential theologians through the centuries. The body of Christian literature is vast and deep and wonderful to explore.

Yes! some kind of overview from the earliest to most recent.
