  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are two kinds of churches: one is liberal, and the other is radical. Both can be dangerous because the liberal church downplays the Bible, such as denying the teaching that same-sex relationships are wrong. On the other hand, the radical church is problematic because it teaches what the apostles did not.

I will focus on the latter group, as it may sound encouraging to those who are drawn to radical ideas.

I've heard pastors teach that being poor is good, but Proverbs clearly states that poverty is undesirable. If you are talented in your job and hold a director position, it is perfectly fine to keep that job rather than working as a janitor. Just praise God for giving you those talents.

I've also heard pastors give advice that goes beyond scripture, suggesting that one must set minimum requirements when choosing a partner. While this may be generally good advice to protect our marriages and keep them holy before the Lord, St. Paul said that widows can marry whoever they wish, as long as their spouse is in the Lord. Therefore, the pastor goes too far by imposing specific requirements that prevent their members from dating. Some refuse to date simply because potential partners are not of the same denomination.

Recently I've learned there is a group called Amish who reject high education and refused to use electric?! Where in the bible it says electric is evil?

Should theses radical group be called a cult? Coz it has a culture that teach beyond the apostle teaching.

Actually, we call any movement that has one human leader who exercises a type of control over a group of people in order to further a non biblical agenda. There are many examples of this. The term radical or liberal does not fit into this category unless there is one leader steering a flock in unrighteousness. Blessings

All churches are in an apostate condition one way or another ... just as it was (letters to the 7 churches) .... it is today.

The Amish choose to live a simple life .... nothing wrong with that

It's not that the Amish aren't allowed to use electricity, it's that they believe too much reliance on electricity or access to public power grids will tie them too closely to the rest of the world and hurt their well-preserved culture. It's not necessarily against their beliefs to have power.

They bend towards self-sufficiency ... that's their culture.

No, the Amish are not a cult

They are a Christian group that originated in the Anabaptist movement during the Protestant Reformation. They are known for their simple lifestyle, which includes avoiding modern conveniences like electricity and cars, and for their emphasis on community, pacifism, and separation from popular culture.

We should be careful with the use of the word cult

Early Christianity was considered a cult and by many it still is.

The Amish reject many modern conveniences because said modern technologies don't benefit them. It's not about technology being evil but rather what it incentivizes. Look at computers, what's the first thing most people do with them? They look at porn.

They are only radical insofar as they reject modernity and good on them for having done so. They are thriving while most other Christian groups are declining. We should all learn from the example of the Amish.

You chose two words that may fit the narrative.
They however exclude a great number of believers.
Referirng to anyone that does not subscribe to the lib philosophy and as a radical is disingenuous a frankly silly.
Christ was a radical to the Pharisees.
That's why they killed Him.
Unless of course you intended the term as a compliment as in a follower of Christ.
We are not of the world and it is not our purpose to compromise to fit in. To accept sinful behavior and call it love is delusional.
God may accept us where we are but He demands change.

I would suggest that there are more than two kinds of churches, because surely you are not saying that every church in the world is either liberal or radical.
