. So why is it so unimaginable that passages often taken for historical narratives are in reality not history, but fiction ? Have Fundamentalists not heard of, or read, legends, myths, or historical novels ?

I don't quite understand why, for some people, everything in the Bible must be historically accurate. Just because it is the Bible? It is obviously a collection of many different genres. Is it because we have a human hunger for the miraculous? Even the fantastic?

When I was younger I believed in all sorts of things. I even wore wire pyramid on my head when I meditated. I thought Arjuna and Krishna were historical people having a conversation and we some how got the transcript. Now I even look skeptically upon the stigmata of St Francis.
But my faith in a loving, personal transcendent and immanent consciousness we call God remains stringer than evet. And my Christology continues to develop along with my hear and mind.

Mostly I am going by the age that Jesus went to Calvary and I believe that is the age Adam was because Bishop Ussher tells us Adam was born 4,000 years before Jesus. So if their birth or beginning was 4,000 years apart then their death was 4,000 years apart.

I can not imagine Adam being created a full grown adult with no childhood. I know that is a popular belief with the YEC people but I do not go along with it.

Nope. He is some kind of an idol for the YEC folks (just because he summed the ages of patriarchs in the OT - a simple thing to do for even a child), but thats all, he is quite unknown outside of the YEC camp.

Adam was 33 when he sinned. 4000 years later Jesus went to Calvary to pay the price for that sin.

According to most biblical scholars and historical evidence, Jesus died a few hours before the beginning of Passover. Specifically, it is believed that Jesus was crucified on Friday, April 3rd, AD 33, at approximately 3 PM. This timing was just before the start of Passover and the Sabbath. The Church began on Pentacost 50 days later.
