  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

POPE FRANCIS FLIGHT
Pope Francis answers a question from a journalist aboard his flight back to Rome Sept. 13, 2024, after visiting Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Singapore. It was his 45th and longest international trip. (CNS photo/Lola Gomez)

ABOARD THE PAPAL FLIGHT FROM SINGAPORE (CNS) — Asked what a U.S. Catholic given a choice between voting for a person who supports abortion or one who supports closing borders and deporting migrants, Pope Francis said one must choose “the lesser evil.”

“Who is the ‘lesser evil’ that woman or that man?” the pope asked, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. “I do not know. Each person must think and decide in his or her conscience.”

Pope Francis spent 45 minutes answering questions from 10 journalists on his flight Sept. 13 from Singapore to Rome at the end of a 12-day trip. He was asked about the four countries he visited, about sexual abuse, about his future travel plans, about the war in the Holy Land and the Vatican’s relations with China.

Pope Francis answers question on candidates’ views on abortion and immigration

A U.S. television reporter asked him about the choice Catholic voters face between Harris, who supports legalized abortion, and Trump, who wants to severely restrict immigration and has said he wants to deport millions of migrants.

Both attitudes “are against life: the one who wants to throw out the migrants and the one who kills children,” the pope said. “Both are against life.”

He's not wrong. There are serious problems IMO with both candidates in different ways. It's really a choice between the lessor of two evils, one of whom will become president. I'd like to vote for Peter Sonski, but he stands no chance in heck of getting into the WH.
I can see why Christians want to vote for Trump, due to the pro life and religious liberty issues.

I agree.

The ONLY reason why I'm voting for Trump is to keep Harris out of the White House.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The absolute perfect candidate for president, in my mind, would be Trey Gowdy, but unfortunately, he (wisely, IMO) is not running.

I don't blame him.

I agree.

Exactly. I don't vote for Democrats in any circumstance, but we agree on this one.

FYI:
#1. Trump's plan is not to 'throw out the migrants".
Trump's plan is to deport ILLEGAL immigrants - persons who broke the law and entered the Country illegally.

#2. Abortion is murder. It is a mortal sin.

So which is the 'lesser evil'?

Personally, I see nothing 'evil' about deporting ILLEGAL immigrants or closing the U.S. borders.
That's called protecting one's Country.
Most all Countries do it.
(Can't America do it, too?)

God bless you, fide. And I agree.
Thank you mourningdove, and may God bless us all - all - with clarity, with Truth, with prudence being "wise as serpents and innocent as doves" (Mt 10:16) in this very dangerous jungle we are now called to walk in. Compromise with evil in the mind is a first step toward betrayal of the good in the heart. We need to remain in ever-prayerful closeness to our Lord, vigilant especially to what seems "small matters" or "they're only words."

Yes. I so very much agree.

When I hear persons trying to twist and explain away the meaning of clearly stated verses like John 14:6, I have to step away. I have to turn it off. Because the twisting and turning rarely if every clarifies, but generally only creates cause for confusion and doubt. And I want no part of willingly allowing such doubt to enter my mind. We need to be strong for the spiritual battles we are facing, and not wasting precious time and energy wrestling with thoughts of doubt, though the enemy of our souls must surely rejoice when we doubt the Lord and His Word.

I like Trey Gowdy too and he would make an excellent candidate. He is good friends with Tim Scott, who I originally supported in the 2024 primaries and was disappointed when he dropped out. I was hoping Trump would at least choose him for VP.

I would never vote for a Democrat. They are the party of death and the unborn are crying out to God for justice.

He wants to protect the most vulnerable and protect our borders.

Sounds like a wonderful man to me!

Tim Scott still appears to attend alot of Trump events, and appears to travel in Trump's inner circle at times.
