  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump's at it again...just trying to bring America together I suppose?

IF you tell prejudicial lies against a whole group, why should you be respected?

Trump’s Hateful New Rants at Rally Are Harshly Debunked by Town Leader

Looking to hear how and why this should be excused.

IF ILLEGAL people, with little skills, little knowledge, a traumatic background far away from their support systems, with barely any school and no highly sought after skills, who are unfamiliar with the society....STILL manage to take YOUR job? I got news for you:
You need to try harder in your life.

I wonder how many people heard Trump's words and believed him? I wonder how many people on here believe him, despite the mayor directly contradicting everything Trump said.

To be clear, I think he's trying to unify America in that everyone in America should be able to identify what he said as (at best) a prejudicial lie, if not racist.

From what I'm noticing is that illegals take jobs. That nobody wants, including Trump. These jobs, are for people , that don't need to skills. So basically Trump is telling people to stop improving their education/skills. So they can ear less money. And people have no clue.

The New Republic is a far left outlet.

CBS Reported:

"KDKA-TV first reported in March how we were told the immigrant population in Charleroi has grown by more than 2000% in the last two years. The majority of students in the local school district who need assistance learning English are from Haiti. The district has spent $400,000 on ELL teachers and an interpreter. Trump touched on that impact during his speech."

"We traveled to Charleroi on Sunday to learn from neighbors directly how the influx of immigrants was impacting them. The community of just a few thousand just suffered a major loss a few weeks ago when 300+ workers at the Anchor Hocking Pyrex glass factory learned the plant would be shutting down."

So, not sure what other "rants" you are talking about it, but it appears that he stated facts reported in news outlets.

The Republican State Senator whose district includes the town of Charleroi:

"Earlier this month, Pennsylvania state Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R) repeatedly found herself challenging anti-immigrant rhetoric from the leader of her party and his allies.

Responding on Facebook, Bartolotta rejected that idea, noting that the immigrants had “escaped horrific events in Haiti” — a place Trump has disparaged — and were “here LEGALLY to WORK , and pay taxes, and raise their children, and be part of the community.”

“I follow you & repost but you are playing into the hands of people who are jeopardizing the safety of innocent children in our local school,” she wrote. “These Haitians are working hard, sending their children to school and opening businesses. They are here legally. They did not cross our border. Many are professionals who escaped horrific conditions in their home country.”

“There was no workforce in Charleroi a few years ago when a business owner desperately needed them,” she wrote on X. “He advertised and looked for workers for a long time. Before shutting down completely, he hired an agency that connected immigrants who were vetted and LEGAL to work in his facility. Instead of closing, he now has three shifts working around the clock.”

WaPo's Phillip Bump makes an excellent point -- many small towns simply have no younger workforce available....naturally, motivated immigrants are willing to answer that need....as immigrants have done since the founding of our country:

"This is a pattern in a lot of small communities in the United States: The population is disproportionately old, aged out of the workforce. There are relatively few young people who can fill now-vacant jobs, causing employers to shrink. This shift in age is a central reason foreign-born workers have seen higher job growth recently, something else that Trump frames in exaggerated, apocalyptic terms.

We can see how this shift affects Trump-voting areas more heavily thanks to data from the Census Bureau. In counties that voted for Joe Biden in 2020, the median age is 39.1 years. In counties that voted for Trump four years ago, it’s 42.2. In Biden counties, an average of about 17 percent of the population is age 65 or over, compared with a fifth in Trump-voting counties."

Anchor Hocking (Corelle) is closing down. The city just lost another factory, Quality Pasta, right before Labor Day.

It's left, but not far left and it's rating for accuracy is high.

TNR is quoting the a local town official.
And the Republican State Senator is also objecting to Trump's misrepsentations....

Alas, the local officials are to be ignored in the service of the dear leader.

It's biased in its wording. I prefer less biased sites. You cut out the rest of my post, which contained the more important information, which is that this statement has actually been reported in media:

It’s left but not far left and it is rated as highly factual.

As I was addressing only a single point I only included the single point.

As others have mentioned, the Haitians have brought prosperity to a dying town. Trying to demonize this group for fun and profit and political gain is inexcusably cruel.

I haven’t talked about any “rants” so this part of your copy pasta is misdirected.

I responded to Rambot, not you. That's why you don't acknowledge the rants; it wasn't you. I cite sources and link them, and sometimes quote relevant passages, which is what you must be referring to here.

The relevant portion of any post should not be cut out. Bias is always relevant, as certain sources focus only on certain stories and elevate them with prejudicial language.

I see. In the future, it would help if, when you are responding to Rambot you should not quote my post; quote his instead and there won't be confusion.

Again, don't quote my post (#8, for reference) if you aren't addressing me, okay?

Relevant to what and to whom? What is relevant then, to you, might not be relevant now, to me.
