  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Becky and Dave. Some neighbors of mine.

I asked Becky and Dave. They want to know exactly what "formal and rigorous instruction on consent" means.
Good for Becky and Dave! They seem like standup people concerned about the safety of women and men!

I mean, full lessons (or even several) explaining the purpose and meaning of consent as well as opportunities to practice....
not just...
"No means no guys. Now take out your social texts and turn to p125"

Oh, no no no. Quite the opposite.

You want kids to have opportunities to practice? In the classroom?

Doesn't appear that way. What gives you the impression they want kids to not be safe? Do they agree that looking at drawings of a naked human adult is going to destory them?

Consent? Yes.

My link details a Colorado program that provided long term birth control and cut the abortion rate in half for the demographic targeted. There are zero pro-life groups promoting similar programs which demonstrates that getting people to conform to their sexual morality is more important than reducing the number of abortions.
Not to ramble on, but maybe some people are uncomfortable with the thought of teens having sex which is why they don’t provide birth control….even though it happens all the time. That’s my only guess.

So uncomfortable they’re ok with twice as many unwanted pregnancy and abortions instead.

They’re not ok with it. Most people, from my experience, who support abstinence only believe sex is only acceptable within a marriage.

Oh for sure. I would be CRAZY uncomfortable with the thought of my teen daughter having sex.

But her own health and well being is MORE important than my comfort level.

Though perhaps these are also people who wouldn't be too bothered if their teen daughter had a baby.

Who knows? I’m not a parent so I don’t have an opinion.

I've always loved that phrase "unwanted pregnancy". A lot like an "unwanted Russian Roulette result". Pro Tip: even though it's lots of fun, don't play Russian Roulette.

Agreed. I never understood the whole consent to sex doesn’t mean consent to pregnancy, when that’s LITERALLY how biology and reproduction works.

Teenagers having babies is not the problem. In fact it's a good thing. The younger the parents are, the more physically and mentally healthy the baby will likely be. That's mostly how it always was.

The problem is irresponsible teenagers, and late stage capitalism which makes it very hard to afford a family.

It's interesting to me that someone from a developed country would make that argument.

Are you harkenning back to the time of child brides and an infant/newborn/mother mortality rates worse than anything currently on rhe planet that nobody would DARE wish on any female in their family?

Like I said, enforcing their sexual morality is more important than reducing abortions.

I’m not saying you’re wrong.

I will leave it at that.
