  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There was no kneeling there at all. Not even during Communion. Maybe it depends on the church.
Odd.

I know many Lutherans do kneel during Communion, as I've seen communion rails in LCMS Churches.

I think it's common among ELCA, not sure about WELS.

In some Catholic Churches, there are communion rails/altar rails. Sadly, they are mostly used for the traditional Latin Mass only.

Happy my parish offers them.

It seems that church I went to (LCMS) IS odd.

Maybe it was not as conservative or liturgical? I don’t know.
Well, my former pastor has pictures of himself wearing liturgical garb and collar but all the pastors wear now are either jeans or non-denim pants, no tie etc. They will do confession if asked but people rarely go and there are no confessionals. The service goes something like this: praise band/singing three songs with the lyrics up on screens, communion twice a month, a loooooong sermon (about a half hour), more singing with the praise band then dismissal.

Yeah, doesn’t sound very liturgical. To each their own.

Dumb question, but what does liturgical mean, exactly?
Refers to the order of the Mass, sacraments, or divine office aka liturgy of the hours.

Liturgical means that the church service tends to follow a certain formula each time the congregation worships as a whole. Readings and homilies/sermons are pre-made and tend not to sound like "motivational speeches" but simply preaching about something. Certain rituals are followed by the clergy and laity which make the worship seem more formal.

I have to sit near the door because there's no air conditioning and I have asthma. The lady who sits behind me is always complaining about what the priest is doing during Mass. She complains about the bulletin, about the raffle, and pretty much anything else she can think of. She speaks under her breath, but I can hear her and it's annoying. I'll be glad when winter is here and I can move far away from her.
