• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sort of but not really, I know where they're locked up.
I don't feel that fearful or threatened.
You mean you are not afraid of people breaking in your house?

Just clearing that up.

Let’s be honest here. The reason someone’s going to get shot if they break into her house is because she has Secret Service protection.
That's assuming someone doesn't get past the secret service's parameter and enters her house?

I guess then that person will deal with the agents in the house.

I meant exactly what I said. I'm not so fearful as to feel the need to have a weapon "at the ready for home (or any other) defense."
Clear?

Australia's burglary rate is almost double that of the US. 674/100,000 as compared to 376. Hardly anyone has guns here.

It is not about being fearful it is about being prepared in this crazy world big difference.

Maybe if they did there would be less burglary.

If you’re under SS protection you only have to worry about that if you’re Donald Trump

Of a candidate for president who is making such a claim, yes.
That wasn't the question. The question is why does, "make, what model, what caliber" matter?

of course it's fear ..and I'm not that afraid of the crazy world I/we live in.
Given the odds, if they were "at the ready," I'm more concerned that my grandson would get hold of them and hurt himself or someone else.

and if that is the case no one is forcing you to have guns, but to sy that it is (unreasonable) fear to have them is also not the case. Also, it is worth teaching your grandson the danger of guns. Guns in ad of themselves are not scardy. Moreover, it is not as if if something DOES happen the person cannot be held liable (as usually they can)

And there'd probably be more armed burglaries. We had a couple of problems with guns a few years back. Our politicians, backed by the vast majority of Australians, introduced gun laws that would scare the living daylights out of most Americans. We haven't had a mass shooting since and our rate of people killed by guns is less than a tenth of yours. Gun Deaths by Country 2024

You should at least know what caliber it is so you don’t put the wrong ammunition in it. Duh

and in the case of an armed burglary which would proabaly actually be considered robbery in most cases the victim would be even MORE justified to shoot.

All I can say is that we don't shoot people here. One, we wouldn't want to. Two, nobody has guns. Well, except for a few bad guys and they mostly shoot each other.

You should try it.

Most of our gun deaths are bad people shooting each other and suicides
