Do you think the government should be allowed to come into our homes and conduct gun safety checks?

For example, stopping by and checking to see if we keep our guns locked up or not?

Safer that way for everyone, but I doubt safety is really the point.

Make an example out of a few by bringing in overwhelming firepower, while the family is still in bed. Make sure the media is in attendance. Make everybody else be nicely accommodating.

Kamala said if Congress doesn’t enact the mandatory gun buy back in 100 days she’ll do executive action.

This is against the Constitution as is search and seize.

To give them power to check the guns is giving them power to know what they will eventually seize or buy back.

Maybe the checks are only for safety reasons, such as making sure they are stored properly.

This would be seriously time consuming-to investigate thousands of dwellings.

The Kentucky case followed the precedence of Brigham City, vs Stuart. The difference however was that because of the pot smell and the likelihood that the person inside was destroying evidence, the cops were permitted without a warrant. This type of search then was valid without a warrant. However, they quoted the Brigham case to draw the line as to what is permissible, reaffirming your 4th amendment right. Liberals like the 4th amendment too. The Brigham case was unanimous at the Supreme Court level.
So you know on the Kentucky case where they permitted an exception due to the pot and moving around (allegedly destroying evidence) the sole vote to throw out the conviction of the man found with pot, was Ruth Bader Ginsburg, yes the staunch liberal defending the homeowners rights further than any conservative on the court.
I would add that if this is Harris's opinion it just shows her preferences are fully misguided and likely her nominations could be nutty as well. I doubt in 4 years she will get more than 3 nominations and of course if she is elected and things go poorly, she will lose the Senate so that would shrink her time frame to 3 years. Not too mention the civil unrest she will face. I think to be practical that it would take years to even get a list of gunowners, plus local police would have to affirm the practice. (Most would not). There is not enough manpower to do this either. So just like Biden wanting to forgive student loans, the Supreme Court and the locals will "shoot" down Harris' desire for any unreasonable search.

I don't think we have the manpower to do 1:1 searches, and so this is not a feasible option

I would go along with this under one condition: that the Feds can guarantee me that for every gun owner's house that they check, they must at the same time permanently deport 50 illegal aliens.

And, if they gave each legal gun owner a check for $50,000.00 before entering the home.

I understand the need to save lives. Many unnecessary deaths have been caused by guns that are in the home but not kept secure, and there have been unintentional accidents.

Owning a gun is a very big responsibility.

However, I wonder how the government would even begin to handle this check.

Losing a loved one is so very devastating, especially if they are a child.

I am not sure of the answer on this question, as when we just leave it alone, many people get harmed or killed, yet there is no way to make sure that people are handling their guns properly either.
