  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We must NOT allow the federal government to hand over control of American sovereignty to the UN or the WHO.

This is a very, very important issue for America, that seems to get very little coverage in the media.

Thank you for posting this.

Honestly, they are not wrong. International reaction to the Corina virus could have been better organized.

But if it is approved there should be checks in place.

We must have checks in place to protect national sovereignty against the WHO and the UN when, not if, the next global pandemic happens.

When there is another global pandemic, I believe that it will be with a virus that has not yet been identified to the public.

For over 50 years, I've been hearing variationg of this fear mongering from the far right.

Perhaps. However, have you done research into what the WHO has publicly stated concerning the next global pandemic?

No.
I do know that a pathogen doesn't care about a country's borders. To fight the next pandemic, it will take the cooperation of all countries. That doesn't mean the UN would have direct authority over the our government or make decisions on it's behalf.

What is both fascinating and dumbfounding to me is that US lawmakers are commenting about the UN & WHO when they clearly have no concept of how these international agreements are created, structured and implemented. How can they be so uninformed on a topic and still expect to be taken seriously?

The WHO's Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response Accord is being created in consultation with the 194 WHO member states and numerous international medical and disaster preparation bodies. The US gets an (outsized) voice in what goes into the agreement. The accord is also voluntary. The US doesn't have to sign up to it unless it wants to.

And, the Biden administration can only sign up to the accord through Congress. The United States Constitution provides that the president "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur" (Article II, section 2). For instance, the US has signed but not ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, because it failed to pass a senate vote.

“The World Health Organization pandemic treaty is very vague, it affects our sovereignty, and it could be exploited to tell Americans what kind of health care they need in the event of a global pandemic,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said.

The treaty isn't vague. It's very detailed. The draft agreement is 29 pages, and the annexes and addendums cover another 50 pages (almost 14,000 words). There are more than 200 additional pages of proposed changes/amendments being worked through.

It was obviously a political speech - I stopped watching after a minute. If you've listened to the whole thing, could you be specific about what the problems are as you see them. Or as the GOP sees them?
A reminder below on some of the WHO issues that have been before us this year:
It's all very vague. Again, can you please be specific about exactly what the problem is and quote any part of any document the WHO has issued that confirms it. Otherwise, this is just 'WHO bad!'

If a POTUS administration needs to have Congressional approval to sign these plans and accords as well as Congressional approval to implement the World Health Organization, then I hope and pray that there will always be enough Senators and Representatives in the Congress who will prevent the American signing and implementation the WHO's Pandemic Prevention Preparedness and Response Accords. Because of the lies and manipulations from the WHO that allowed millions to die while also unnecessarily shutting down economies, cities, counties, and states, I cannot ever again trust unaccountable bureaucrats.

From here: Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response accord

How much authority could an accord have over signatory countries? Will it take sovereignty away from signatory countries?

'None. The outcome document developed by the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) and presented to the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly reaffirms “the principle of the sovereignty of States in addressing public health matters.”

Article 24, paragraph 2, of the draft agreement goes onto say that “Nothing in the WHO Pandemic Agreement shall be interpreted as providing the WHO Secretariat, including the WHO Director-General, any authority to direct, order, alter or otherwise prescribe the national and/or domestic laws, as appropriate, or policies of any Party, or to mandate or otherwise impose any requirements that Parties take specific actions, such as ban or accept travellers, impose vaccination mandates or therapeutic or diagnostic measures or implement lockdowns.”

Again, if anyone has something specific to discuss that isn't covered by that very explicit declaration, I'm keen to hear it.

At the same time, we have to accept there are times it is in the people's best interest to give up some of that sovereignty for the betterment of all.

Like during a worldwide pandemic.

Agreed. And I'm worried it's going to be more lethal but too many folks will take too individualistic a mindset...
