  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hillary Clinton says Melania Trump reminded her of “a little kid” when she came face-to-face with the fellow former first lady for the first time after losing the 2016 White House race.

The encounter, Clinton recalled in her latest book, “Something Lost, Something Gained,” came last year at a memorial service for Rosalynn Carter.

“Rosalynn’s grandson Jason said it had been her wish that all the First Ladies would come together for her memorial in a show of unity in these divisive times,” Clinton wrote in the book, which was released Tuesday.

“If anybody at the White House or on Bill’s or my Secret Service detail had been briefed on Mrs. Trump’s plan to attend, they didn’t tell me,” Clinton, 76, wrote in the book.

I am grateful for the graciousness of the first ladies.

I don't think the former president attended many state funerals. He was banned from John McCain's for good reason. At a black Congressional leader's some mourners refused to shake his hand. He chose not to attend others.

It is clear that the Trumps have isolated themselves due to his behavior, but that his colleagues have the good manners to be gracious.

I guess I missed the "good manners to be gracious" in that remark.

Shooting at republican senators, two attempts to shoot the Republican candidate for president in 2024... why is it that the over-the-top level of angst and violence only comes from one side all the while claiming that the other side is "not polite"??

I saw a lot of compassion in Clinton's comment. She saw someone whose husband's outrageous behavior had separated him from the other presidents and former presidents, who was asked to stay away from the funeral of an American hero he had called a "loser for getting caught," who was unwelcome at black leaders' funerals and whose handshakes were rejected. She was isolated and uncomfortable--not, primarily, because of her own actions, but because her husband's behavior had put her in this unhappy position.
Clinton knew what it was like to have an unfaithful husband. She knew what it was like to have her husband impeached (for reasons that seem insubstantial by comparison, of course.)
Of course she was gracious to Melania.
I see no emnity in saying Melania seemed like a little child...because that's how isolated people fearing rejection always seem.

I too am often struck by Clinton's expressions of compassion for Melania.
Hillary certainly had her share of outrageous behavior from her husband so I don't fault her at all for having compassion on women like Melania.

That was debunked by Snopes and other news agencies - but certain left wing media try to keep that one going no matter the facts.

His daughter Megan McCain talked about that on "The View." Like most Americans, she revered her father and wanted to protect his legacy. He was one of my very favorite Republicans of all time (it's not a very extensive list.) His bipartisan work on campaign finance reform (which was invalidated by what I believe was an incorrect decision on Citizens United). His casting the deciding vote saving the Affordable Care Act.

His integrity in 2008 when a rally attendee started calling Obama names. He put her down, and gently told her that she was repeating lies she'd heard. He respected his opponent.

Of course, Sarah Palin was a big mistake, but that was poor advice.
