  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In his defense it's merely descriptive language.

What do locusts do? They descend en mass upon any sign of green vegetation and kill it.

I'd say that is an excellent description of having your small towns population increase by 33% in 3-1/2 years, leaving your citizens fighting for limited resources with migrants who don't even speak the language.

But that's just me. I'm a realist who reads the Bible a lot and am very used to the use of such descriptors - it's Biblical language.

It's meant to evoke a picture of the reality in a manner people can more readily relate to and understand, even across time.

lol wut? Most insults are “merely descriptive language.” Would you be okay if I went around calling you and other conservatives “locusts”? I would expect to get banned in a heartbeat.

Most insults

Facts don't care about your feelings.

It’s amazing that you think this is a defense.

I live in the Bible daily. When you do it becomes the way you talk and think.

When you couldn't even grasp the simple concept of "our towns resources are stretched beyond breaking point" I don't think you have any moral high ground.

If you can't speak French, don't critique the way French people talk, or make wild claims about what they're saying.

Cribbing notes from a bumper sticker doesn’t make your point any more coherent.

Oh? Where was the passage where Jesus defended referring to immigrants as locusts?

When you couldn't even grasp the simple concept of "our towns resources are stretched beyond breaking point" I don't think you have any moral high ground.

What makes you think I can’t grasp that concept?

It's from a song... Tom MacDonald and Ben Shapiro. I thought you'd love it so much...

What makes you think I can’t grasp that concept?

Because here in the thread I'm reading about post authors being offended on behalf of others for daring to say so using the language we use daily.

Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining.

I don't follow people, let alone follow them into gutters.

You call people locusts daily?

I don't follow people, let alone follow them into gutters.
And yet here you are, defending a public official hurling insults at poor immigrants.

You call people locusts daily?

I sure would if they had increased the size of my town by 33% in only 3-1/2 years!

Race doesn't matter... No town can handle that. That's locusts by any metric.

I call people harvests too... Are you going to make wild claims about it?

It is interesting though isn't it? That our government did specifically this? I find it interesting... It's like the government is telling us something.

Well we were called deporables. Racists, homophones, transphobes, white supremacists, dangerous to democracy among other things. All things that are equally as bad if not worse than what sheriff had to say.
It’s meant to portray people as vermin.
As noted above you don't seem to be consistent in your criticisms.

None of those labels were given for merely existing in a place.

And when you try to steal an election like Trump did, you deserve to be called a threat to democracy.

Where did Jeaus defend referring to conservatives as baskets of deplorables?
What makes you think I can’t grasp that concept?
Apparently not. Becauae rhats what locusts do. They swarm into an area and take away resources the prople who live there need.

Maybe he shouldn't have said it that way, but it is an apt description of what is happening there. Perhaps he should have just stuck.with they are swarming rhe area and taking away our resources. That probably would have been better.

Neither was the label given by the sheriff.

See you are more than happy to.defend the things people say on your side.

Your criticisms are not consistent. They are politically motivated. It's a shame. Because we can't take you seriously.

Would it have been though?

The only way to get the media and the left to pay attention to the problem is to do stuff like this.

Say the facts in an uninteresting way and no one listens to you.

Call people locusts and there's at least discussions talking about the comparison and whether it's apt to make it.

If it's the only way to give the issue daylight then I don't think it's wrong, especially when the description is apt.

The right are barely citizens at this point, we don't get air time otherwise. This is what we have to do. So long as we are speaking the truth I don't see a problem.

People were upset about what was happening in Springfield before the president got on stage and made PETA proud, but no one was talking about it nationally.

That's what it took for the discussion nationally to finally occur and not just be ignored. that's what it took to even have a national conversation.

I'll defend locusts. (Such a weird thing to say... Lol...) The lefts going to call everyone racists no matter what anyway even if they have to make stories up. We are past having a PR campaign for white Americans, that portion of the program is over. When your fighting for your life you don't care what you look like. They hate white middle Americans... You'll never turn that hate into love.

So speak the truth and let the truth defend you. Then let the chips fall where they may.

It's better than waiting to find those corners of America they really are scared of inundated with foreigners. You have to stop that to protect the foreigners themselves.

For quiet a few? Probably where he called the church a den of thieves for turning it into a market place. A lot on the right seem to use religion as a way to make money, and while showing nothing religious brag and talk about how religious they are, seems to fit Trump and quiet a few others on the right.

Do you simply like her better? What is up?

I've taken screenshots of the dictionary if that's the direction you want to go. I spoke the truth.

Why does this have to be a national story? Lots of cities all over the country are running low on resources for a variety of reasons. If rehoming immigrants should come with more federal aid so as to not strain existing infrastructure, fine. Make that argument. I’m on board with that and I doubt you’d find much resistance on the left. But that’s not what you’re doing. You’re describing these poor immigrants as a plague.
That's what it took for the discussion nationally to finally occur and not just be ignored. that's what it took to even have a national conversation.

You’re not initiating a conversation. You’re just mistreating people.

We are past having a PR campaign for white Americans, that portion of the program is over. When your fighting for your life you don't care what you look like. They hate white middle Americans... You'll never turn that hate into love.

Why does this have to be a national story?

Because it's a national problem.

The Biden/Harris Administration won't close the border and it's killing America.

It's serious. Not some little bitty issue that can be fixed by ignoring our wide open borders and the fact we don't have the resources or the ability to take in all these people.

The only people who even want this here are slavers!

In 2024 we shouldn't be running slaves. I thought we were over that as a people and ready to heal as a nation and fix our own issues!

Now people are being called racists for not wanting slavery here. How times change.

Well we were called deporables.

Do you identify as a racist, a xenophobe, or any such thing?

Because unless you are one of those things, you weren't called deplorable.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” Clinton said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic—you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

She said the other half of Trump’s supporters “feel that the government has let them down” and are “desperate for change.”

“Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well,” she said.
