Donald Trump survived “what appears to be an attempted assassination”—the second in as many months—near his Florida golf course, the FBI said.

The former president was rushed to safety when a suspected gunman was spotted hiding in the bushes of his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday. Trump has assured his supporters he is “safe and well,” adding: “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”

The suspect, who fled the scene in a car but was later stopped and arrested, has been identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh.

Unlike Thomas Matthew Crooks, who attempted to assassinate Trump in July, Routh has a large social media footprint—one which has prompted commentators to accuse leading Democrats of “radicalizing” him.

oh, wait I HAVE been actually been shot at twice in my life, so I have some perspective on this.....

...I'd consider it an indictment of my personality and maybe take some stock of myself to figure out why people want to shot at me.

oh, wait I HAVE been actually been shot at twice in my life, so I have some perspective on this.....

...I'd consider it an indictment of my personality and maybe take some stock of myself to figure out why people want to shot at me.

The last thing I wanted was to frighten anyone.

I just wanted to make a point.

Look:

The first time it was just some young, dumb, excitable gangbanger with .22 automatic who thought bullets went where you were looking. He emptied a clip into the neon sign 8 feet over my head. I didn't even know what was happening until it was over. (.22s don't make a lot of noise)

The second time was an older fella who was seriously drunk and, in truth, he didn't shoot at me as much as just, sort of, blew off 4 shotgun shells in my general direction, and from some distance. Although, unlike the .22 auto, a shotgun blast will get your attention.

Both people were disarmed and eventually removed from the vicinity by the local constabulary in relatively short order.

See, my friend?

Nothing to get loose any sleep over, just armed Americans doing armed American stuff.

I know the sound of a bullet flying by a wee bit too close. The shooter didn't know me and wasn't selecting me in particular as the target. Not an indictment of me or my personality and I never lost a bit of sleep wondering 'why me?'. It was all on them.
