If you're bothered by the migrants but don't have the same fervor for the money we've sent to Ukraine and Israel you're biased. Anyone genuinely concerned about the economy will decry excess in all areas. Not merely the ones that mirror their prejudices.

An article on how the rumor started.

You do realize all the city council meetings are recorded and publicly shared by the city council.

I've sat and watched several full sessions now and I'm quite confident in my assessment of what the citizens are saying.

Oh do please elaborate.
You not understanding that there's something else besides citizens and illegal immigrants. That can cause quite a problem having this hole in your knowledge when trying to understand these issues.

Looks like the US could learn a lesson or two from Finland:

If you had a foreign power trying to weaponize immigration, sure. That's not the issue here though, but if that does happen, we can compare notes. :)

MSNBC reported (as I was driving home from a local candidates' forum) that in Springfield, Ohio, bomb threats are rampant. Not only have schools and government buildings been closed due to threats, but now a hospital has been closed (potentially threatening the health of the patients there.)
The mayor says that there had not been any problems previous to the Republican candidate's publicity on the pretend issue.
The woman whose social media post had mentioned the potential pet consumption deleted her post with an apology, saying that she had based it on stories circulating in the neighborhood without corroboration.
Haitians have been accosted and assaulted--although they enjoy legal refugee status.
The Republican candidate, if he wants to show his ability to be presidential, needs to apologize to the Haitian people and to the Springfield, OH community for the chaos and danger to which they have been exposed.
To save face, he can say that he honestly believed it to be true, but now that the woman who spread the deadly rumors has come clean and apologized herself that he wants to set the record straight and make amends.
Some people will believe this, others, including me, won't...but if he just tries to calm things down we can let him save his pride.

Sadly, I believe that four more years of a Trump administration will mean many more tragedies such as Springfield, Ohio. He must learn to think (and verify) before he speaks, even if 42% (latest poll) will believe whatever he says without verification, while 47% (latest poll) will attempt to corroborate whatever he says, even if it's true.

No, it's an election stolen by hook and crook and a government who, the second they had power, turned on it's own citizens and weaponized immigration - directly targeting the citizens who were considered a peek into the conditions in America that led to the rise of Trump so Trump's supporters could see the message clearly.

Should these immigrants become citizens, I won’t be surprised if they vote against Republican candidates when they spout rhetoric that further isolates them from their chosen communities.

Oh dear Lord, you actually buy the 2020 election was stolen nonsense.

Not in the way you think.

2020 was the year of mass censorship operations against the right by Big Tech and mass propaganda by MSM and more.

It was all illegal according to US law. It was all chargeable offenses (in-kind campaign contributions etc)

2020 was the full weight of corporate and governmental operations aimed at keeping a legitimate candidate from being reelected to office.

It's not in accordance with US election laws. It was a stolen election.

Had Trump been treated as a Republican candidate, as all other candidates are treated in America historically, Trump would be President right now.

2024 is more of the same plus lawfare.

This isn't a free and fair election either.

The video you posted was intentionally created to mislead people, so it would be an easy mistake to make.

Actually, I was looking for the original....found that person's repost of it....and posted it.

It's my mistake, I'll own it. Hopefully you can at least take that as not a deliberate attempt to deceive.
.
There's going to be people living in Springfield who experience the negative effects of the city's rapid increased population firsthand, and some will be upset or even angry about it. That's to be expected.

Negative effects is a mild description for people getting run over and property damaged and being evicted from your apartment so a Haitian with your tax money can move in.

I'm 100% certain that driving permits for Haitian immigrants, regardless of their immigration status, are issued by the states they reside in.

How?

If the federal government is putting these people on interstate flights it doesn't seem like a stretch that they can also allocate some system of driving permits as well.

If you're 100% certain, why?

Yes, the citizenship question and the penalties associated lying about their immigration status are usually enough of a deterrent to prevent most people from fraudulently registering to vote.

Maybe you didn't notice but recent checks in several states have found at least 15,000+ noncitizens registered to vote....and in some cases, prior voting records.

I'm certainly interested in why you believe that it isn't happening in Ohio.

Ohio also requires a voter present a valid ID:

Voter Identification Requirements / Types of Valid ID

There are several types of valid photo identification.

  • Ohio driver's license;
  • State of Ohio ID card;
  • Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV;
  • A US passport;
  • A US passport card;
  • US military ID card;
  • Ohio National Guard ID card; or
  • US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card

All photo IDs must have the following:

  • An expiration date that has not passed;
  • A photograph of the voter;
  • The voter’s name, which must substantially conform to the voter’s name as it appears in the Poll List or in the Poll Book

Ohio has a designation on driver's licenses and state-issued IDs that will indicate if the holder is a noncitizen.

An interim ID issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Is that going to be the same documentation issued these Haitians or not?

Apparently, Ohio is one of these few states to recently pass voter ID laws (aka "voter suppression laws")

Although apparently you can still vote "absentee" in some elections with just the last 4 digits of a SSN and we know they can get those.

Out of curiosity, what is the citizenship verification happening at the DMV since you brought up driver's licenses? Do you need to show up with a birth certificate or just check a box?

In my state, there is a restriction listed for noncitizens. For example, on the back of my driver's license (top) there are no restrictions listed, but for my wife, who is not a US citizen, the restriction mentions that she only has a legal presence in the country.

View attachment 354588

It's not as easy as many believe for noncitizens to vote in the US.

New wife?

Looks like the US could learn a lesson or two from Finland:

Finland, Sweden, the current UK, Denmark, Germany, France....all in various stages of electing right wing candidates who claim to be strongly against immigration. France had to pull together a broad leftist coalition to barely stave off the right. Germany outright lost to the right. Sweden has elected officials years ago though I don't currently recall exactly what they've done. Ireland looks to be close to deciding to end the bleeding. The UK seems to possibly be too far gone to actually do anything about it.

I think Denmark was the one that surprised a lot of people but they didn't quite have the heaping white guilt of many other nations and a media that isn't spewing constant lies. When the government comes out and admits 60% (guessing, don't recall actual percentage) of the crime is foreigner based....that tends to open some eyes.

The biggest problem here isn't just the media but the sheer size of the nation. These places like Aurora and Springfield had to learn the hard way before they understand that it's not an issue of bigotry or racism or xenophobia or any of that oversimplified moralizing garbage.

Hey now....it's only misinformation when Russia gives you facts about the DNC lol. When it's your own CIA contractors and national media + big tech working together it's "what we had evidence to believe at the time".

As long as they make corrections later....you're supposed to forget it happened.

Hmm if that's the case how do you explain all the times I've talked about legal immigrants on CF?

You believe the BMV is lying? For what purpose? Not ensuring drivers have minimal qualifications does not benefit them. My experience with local news affiliates, regardless of which network, tend to be politically neutral. Do you have a valid reason to discount this one? Or just your own bias against sources that don’t agree with your what you’ve heard from the local rumor mill?
Given the choice between eyewitnesses, a government agency and left leaning media, I'll pick the eyewitnesses.

Andrew Egger of the Bulwark summarizes the situation well...

".....a horde of YouTubers and right-wing influencers have descended on Springfield, all hoping to find smoking-gun evidence of pet-cheffery in order to give proof to the lie they’ve helped launch. What they’ve found is locals echoing back their own rumors to them: “Then I heard that stuff on Facebook,” one Springfield woman told Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA, “and I thought, I better watch my dogs!”

This point bears repeating. What do many residents of Springfield itself have in common with Bill Hagerty, a random shill from two states away? They’re all just repeating nonsense they saw on the internet. Not a single person who has lost a pet of their own has come forward with their story. But plenty of Springfield natives are now convinced that Haitian immigrants one subdivision over are snatching dogs and cats by the truckload.

Has there ever been a better microcosm of our Trumpified politics? A small town, strained by a wave of new migrants, thrust into the national spotlight by opportunistic politicians and conservative hucksters, churned through a balkanized media ecosystem that lets false rumors spread like weeds. Trump says he wants to protect these communities. He ends up dividing them, inflaming tensions within them, all while using them as political pawns."

Don't forget Poland

Perhaps it would be better for the US if immigration, migration and asylum was left up to individual states.
