  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pope Francis definitively ruled out the possibility of visiting France for the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral on his return flight on Friday from Southeast Asia.

Speaking during an in-flight press conference on the papal plane on Sept. 13, the pope resolutely stated: “I will not go to Paris!”

French President Emmanuel Macron invited Pope Francis to visit Paris for the long-awaited reopening of the historic cathedral, which is set to take place on Dec. 8, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

Why would the Pope skip out on this momentous occasion? Our current Pope is both good, and somewhat strange, and somewhat controversial. As a Catholic, there is one thing I do not like about our denomination: We rely too much on the Pope, when we should put 99% of our reliance on Christ, no make that 100%.

The Catholic Church is not a denomination. It is the Church Christ established. It is not like an offshoot denomination. And we do rely on Jesus Christ 100%. What do you mean by relying on the Pope?

That’s quite OK. It can reopen just fine without him. Maybe he should take a theology refresher course on the uniqueness of Jesus Christ instead.

I don't understand why he won't be there, but I assume he has a good reason for not being there.
Well, being a bit older myself I would be exhausted after his trip. I did a two day trip finishing yesterday and I’m tired. So I get it.

Catholicism is Christianity. Not a denomination of Christianity ;)

That is true. The Catholic church is the closest to the original early Christian church. I have no idea what went on with the Assyrian church, but only the Catholics and Orthodox have a direct lineage to the first church in 33 AD. No other branch can claim that.

That is before the Schism, so could one say that the Assyrian Church was the first schism?
Potentially yes. It is now 'almost' resolved.

Patience is a virtue I don’t possess.
Same here, sister in Christ. Same here. I struggle to put on patience, as it is one of the most difficult Fruits of the Spirit to attain. Also, for myself, sometimes, I can be quick to judge others. Please pray that I do not judge others so harshly or quickly. I will pray for you as well, that God gives you more patience as well.

Colossians 3:12 (ESV): "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience "

Patience is maybe the only virtue I have left, having tried so many quick fixes and seen most of them fail.

Yeah, I suppose that could be his reason for not going. I don't blame him for not going, either. As I said, I don't know what his reasons for not going are. He may very well have had a very good reason for choosing not to attend.
