  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reigning in my life is all done through Jesus, and not of my own ability, though God has given me the strength to power through tough times. God has helped me slowly overcome my disability. The gift of righteousness closely ties in to the Fruit of the Spirit, as having the fruits can make someone more righteous. What about for you, @hislegacy?

Life anecdote from my devotional about God's Desires: https://www.christianforums.com/threads/god’s-desires-our-desires.8303969/

For instance, by the grace of God, it is getting easier for me to listen to others, and take advice. In early May, as my job at the biotech facility has been going well, I asked my former job coach, Jaymasen, about how to socialize at a bar for a near future Catholic young adults event at the local bar on May 6, 2024. He gave me great analogy, as in treating social gatherings similar to a ballroom dance and keep to the same tempo as everyone else by keeping with the conversation.

In summary, after taking the advice from Jaymasen, his metaphor has helped me do well and make friends at the event. Since then, I have met new people and my new friend who founded the Catholic young adults group, Noah, has told me that I am having good progress and no issues. God has placed people in my life that have helped me grow and mature faster than ever before. Jesus is the one to thank for all of this improvement.

The gift of righteousness is the declared acceptance and right standing I have in justification.
Can you elaborate on what specific moments in your life have you felt like your standing is justified and accepted by God?

Justification by faith is forensic act by God whereby He forgives our sins and declares us righteous ie in right standing or acceptance with God.
It is not something one feels but rather something one takes by faith based on the promises of the Bible.

Cool. Seems like I am the only one who put a life anecdote here. No one else so far has.

Notice that the verse doesn't say that one will personally reign in life. It says that the gift of righteousness will reign in life..

You might want to re-read it.

much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.).

The subject of the sentence is 'those who receive'.

That stands when you read the verse contextually.

Romans 5:15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many ]offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Justified = declared not guilty, in right standing with God (sinless) because one's sin has been forgiven through saving faith in Jesus Christ.

It's not about feeling.
It's a legal (justice) transaction.

That is true. Some people can feel a wave of relief though when they ask God for forgiveness though.

Okay. . .forgiveness came with faith to salvation.
Justification follows.

That is true. Forgiveness comes via faith. We must also try to forgive others, which is a true sign of righteousness.

What is the gift of righteousness?
It is justification; i.e., declared righteous by God as the result of his remittance of your sin through faith in Jesus Christ.

It is a forensic righteousness, not the actual righteousness of sanctification/holiness ((Ro 6:16, 19).

It is the righteousness of Christ because it is his atonement which ,through faith, makes us forensically righteous (sin free).

Actual righteousness (sanctification) follows in obedience by the Holy Spirit of the Christian life.

You must be referring to Ro 5:18-19, which is the imputation of Christ's righteousness to those of Christ as the sin of Adam is imputed to those of Adam (Ro 5:12-14), which is the pattern (Ro 5:14) for the imputation of Christ's righteousness.

yes, as noted in the OP - I am directly quoting Romans 5.

what does the imputation of Christ's Righteousness mean to Clare73 personally? How does it effect your life?
