  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The fact checking articles already posted about this September Harris-Trump
debate, are worth carefully reading.

There is a bit of room for different interpretations of how the 2 candidates
did, on some topics. Especially, when the candidates spoke generalizations
that really needed more details ("context") in order to evaluate the
generalization.

But, as the CNN comment (in Huff Post) mentions, Trump is showing
signs of simply being "untethered to reality".

Trump has been living in a self-made world of conspiracy theories,
and has promoted those who pass along conspiracy theories, as long
as those talking heads (such as Tucker Carlson) flatter Trump.

A couple days after the debate, now, fact checkers STILL can't find any evidence for
a number of his bizarre assertions. This should be really upsetting to Christians.
We are called to NOT "bear false witness" (about our shared reality).

While Trump is certainly a compulsive liar...someone like Daniel Dale trying to make that case cheapens the whole thing.

Daniel Dale isn't a real fact checker, he's a guy who focuses mostly on calling out and nitpicking conservatives, and then tosses in a few "soft fact checks" of their opponents to maintain the patina of objectivity.

His conclusion was that Trump made 33 false claims and Harris only made 1 during that entire debate...really? lol
