  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Cor 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

How are you joined to the Lord?
I grew up with faith in my heart, but I didn't take it to the next level. I started making bad choices, and after some patience from God felt the negative consequences. I turned back and took God's word to my conscience seriously. Then I found new strength and a more serious relationship with God. "I give my Spirit to those who obey Me."

There is something deeper in this question, as I see it. Is there is a "law," as it were, governing the relationship between our obedience and God's spiritual supply? I think so.

Protestants are bothered by any sense that legal compliance invites spirituality--it sounds too much like "Law." But I think the Law of Moses was in fact designed to teach us the reciprocity of God, in giving His Spirit freely to those who show good faith to Him.

If we keep His Word, He blesses us. It isn't a guarantee of a prosperous and healthy life, but the blessing is a get out of jail free card with respect to guilt, and it is a guarantee of Eternal Life in the afterlife. It is actually much more than that--it is a personal relationship, assuming we live life on God's terms and not just our own.

Great question--I hope I touched on at least the fringes?

 Through His death and resurrection.

Romans 6:5
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Paul highlights that we should die to sin in Romans, the former way of life, not let it reign in our bodies.
In Corinthians he applies this concept the Corinthians, by highlighting what the sin is - sexual immortality.
