  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I caught wind of a story yesterday and had wanted to post a thread about it.

I saw "A Righteous Perspective" 's YouTube video about some migrants from Haiti who were eating the local wildlife from the parks.

If you would give him a "like" on YouTube if you don't mind and show our brother some support.

The story is completely legit coming from a city council meeting on immigration that was open to public comment in Springfield OH on August 27, 2024.

The commenters only connection is the migrants and perhaps the part of town they are exposed to life in.

Springfield OH is a small American town in decline. After having lost manufacturing in the area they also lost residents. They went from a town of 80,000 to a town of 60,000 as a result.

According to NPR by the 2016 election cycle the town residents experience a decrease in median income by over 20,000 a year. That's actually huge.

Reportedly this town is a microcosm of the economic impact of a government that has placed the needs of American citizens last - the very reason Trump was elected in 2016 in the first place.

So who thought it was a good idea to ship 20,000 Haitians there, a place devoid of a bright future for the average American after a major loss of manufacturing jobs?

Haitians, who have no cultural compatibility with our way of life. NONE!

After finding every article I could find on this town, chasing down every source video and verifying the information therein, I'm more than just terrified...

I'd rather live next door to al-Qaeda, and I hate them from the foundation of the world and they want to kill me.

As people who care about what kind of world exists for our grandchildren to grow up in, we have to stop this migration immediately if not sooner.

The government is systematically attacking the American population at this point, in order to impoverish and destroy them.

This situation is 100% Kamala. This is her attack on our very way of life!

Vote Trump 2024.

This Democratic party led government with Kamala at the helm they are trying to kill Americans along with the American dream for our grandchildren.

I started chasing this down thinking of, this will be a cute story. A few misplaced migrants. That's not what is happening.

I implore every single American to put in the time and see what's going on for yourself. Don't let the media lie to you anymore. The danger to our very way of life are the same people doing this to towns all over America.

We can name this evil and vote against it in 2024.

The story is completely legit coming from a city council meeting on immigration that was open to public comment in Springfield OH on August 27, 2024.
This false claim was started and spread by right-wing propagandists and Neo-Nazis.

Using dehumanizing language to describe immigrants is nothing new for former President Donald Trump or vice presidential candidate JD Vance. Accusations of immigrants being criminals, being rapists or poisoning the blood of the nation have become common currency. But this week, the rhetoric seemed to hit a new low: the allegation that immigrants eat pets.

Vance, who represents Ohio in the U.S. Senate, spread a debunked claim about Haitian migrants living in the city of Springfield, Ohio, on Monday, accusing them of abducting pets and eating them.

The claim, which local police say is baseless, was made by far-right activists, local Republicans and neo-Nazis before being picked up by Vance. A well-known advocate for the Haitian community says she received a wave of racist harassment in the aftermath of Vance's post.

The now-refuted claim appears to have gotten its start online in early August, when a user on the far-right social platform Gab with the screen name "bri ory" commented on photos of members of the white supremacist neo-Nazi group Blood Tribe marching through Springfield protesting Haitian migrants and carrying swastika flags. The commenter claimed that "once haitians swarm into a town animals start to disappear."

Later in August, a resident named Anthony Harris claimed at a Springfield City Commission meeting that the migrants were eating ducks in the park. A member of the same neo-Nazi group also attended the meeting, and the group later echoed that claim on Gab. Days later, it appeared on X.

So who thought it was a good idea to ship 20,000 Haitians there, a place devoid of a bright future for the average American after a major loss of manufacturing jobs?
The Haitian migrants were not "dropped off" in Springfield. They migrated there in search of a lower cost of living and jobs.

Q: Why Springfield?

A: Springfield is an appealing place for many reasons including lower cost of living and available work. These conditions are thought to be the primary reasons for immigrants to choose Springfield. Now that there are numerous immigrant families residing in our community, word of mouth is adding to our population, as this communal culture is sharing their positive experiences about living in our community with family and friends who are also seeking to leave the impoverished and dangerous living conditions of their home country.

Haitians, who have no cultural compatibility with our way of life. NONE!

Haitians Assimilate Well in the United States

There is no reason to oppose Haitian immigration. Despite extreme challenges, Haitians integrate well into the U.S. economy and society. Across numerous economic and social measures, Haitians and their U.S. descendants contribute to and prosper in their new country.

Although most Haitians arrive without jobs, a majority of adults find work within 1 year. After three years of residency in the United States, Haitians actually had a higher rate of employment than the population on average, peaking at nearly 80 percent, or almost 20 percentage points higher than the national average.

The share of Haitians living below the poverty line falls slightly below the national average after 15 or more years of residency. When given the chance and proper legal institutions, Haitians are able to turn around their economic fortunes.

More than 80 percent of persons born in the United States with Haitian ancestry report being employed. Again, this group outperforms the rest: beating other U.S. born persons by 21 percentage points, non-Haitian immigrants by 16 percentage points, and their own parents and grandparents by 13 percentage points.

Descendants of Haitians are about twice as likely to be active-duty members of the armed forces. If we are to take military service as a signal for patriotism, this reflects other measures of assimilation into American society more broadly and strong support for American cultural values.

Haitians are also attending churches in Springfield that were in decline and have also been starting their own. In addition, they have been contributing to the local job market and starting new businesses.

Many [Haitians] felt unwelcome, often facing public criticism for their presence in the city and accusations of criminal behavior—despite employers and city leaders acknowledging them as kind-hearted, hard-working members of the community. Last August, in the wake of a fatal school bus accident involving a Haitian immigrant driver, protestors gathered at City Commission meetings and outside City Hall in an effort to paint the immigrants in a negative light; but God redeemed the tragic event and brought healing to the community and a warmer embrace of the city’s immigrant populations.

All along, God had been hatching a plan. He cast a vision simultaneously among pastors in Haiti and leaders of the Ohio Valley District of The Christian and Missionary Alliance to establish a culturally relevant gospel presence among this struggling immigrant community. Through their joint efforts, the First Haitian Evangelical Church of Springfield was launched November 3, 2022, in the basement of a two-story house. As the congregation grew, it moved to a garage and, eventually, into a small building to hold worship services and conduct outreach.

Right off the bat, the church began ministering Christ’s love in tangible ways to Springfield’s Haitian immigrant populations by providing for basic needs, holding English classes, helping them secure work permits and complete TPS documents—while introducing them to Jesus, teaching them Biblical truths, and discipling them into mature, Christ-honoring disciples who are contributing to their community in meaningful ways.

The Haitian immigrants already are making tremendous contributions to the community, according to those working closely with them. The Rev. John MacQuarrie, pastor for all Springfield and South Charleston Catholic churches, said that Haitians attend each of the nine weekend Masses that he celebrates.

The joyful spirit of their worship has proven infectious, MacQuarrie said: “Their culture and their Catholic faith are rich and deep. We want them to be a part of us and to feel welcome. These are talented, often professional people, with much to offer. They fled because their jobs are gone, or they can’t perform their work in safety.”

Springfield already is seeing a positive impact in its workforce and population numbers, according to Amanda Ambrosio, community health and social impact manager for Rocking Horse. “Honestly, we need them,” she said. “We need people who want to pour back into our city. We thought the population numbers would inevitably decline, and the opposite is happening. I also appreciate the way that they will help my son to open up to new cultures.”

Concurred Dr. Yamini Teegala, chief medical officer of Rocking Horse Community Health Center, “They are bringing a new group of younger individuals to the city. They are part of our economic fabric now, and they are bringing some amount of life back.”

People need look no further than the gospels to understand how to respond to their new neighbors. “Think of the great suffering they have been through, from tsunamis to earthquakes, and try to see the face of the Lord in them,” MacQuarrie said. “Learn to love those who are different, and learn to welcome the stranger in our midst.”

Immigrants are working in Springfield — in various industries that are in great need of workers. Jobs include work in warehouses, manufacturing and the service industry. Some immigrants are working in professional jobs as well.

Springfield is also now home to ten newer businesses, opened by Haitian immigrants, including, 2 Haitian restaurants, 7 Haitian grocery stores and 1 Haitian food truck.

This is exactly the reaction right-wing and Neo-Nazi propagandist want from people. They promote disinformation in order to create fear and division. Don't fall for their lies, because when you do, they win.

This isn't Neo Nazi propaganda. The propaganda is coming from the left.

I'm not going to reply to you today, yesterday was a very hard day for me and I spent most the day crying so I need a day or two from anything upsetting.

I'll respond when I feel able.

The border and migration are a hot-button issue in November’s election but notwithstanding the race for the White House, many Americans including Rue see a need for change.

“There’s no doubt that we need immigration reform,” he said. “I am not a federal legislator, so not the one who’s gonna be able to tell you how to do that exactly.

“But we need accountability with immigration and folks coming across the border without any accountability. I think that’s where the strain is. And then the ability to just come in at numbers and levels, to constrain cities like ours is very difficult.

The bigger immigration issue--that no one talks about--is what to do with all of the undocumented immigrants who have lived and worked in this country for years, and have otherwise committed no crimes. Exact numbers are impossible to know with accuracy. Pew Research (a very reputable organization) puts a 2022 estimate at 11 million. Check the link.

What we know about unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S.

Donald Trump's idea to deport these folks is a ridiculous impossibility. How in the world can state and federal personnel identify and round up millions of people? The idea is stupidity on steroids. But preposterous, irrational, lunacy is Donald's stock and trade.

The much better approach has already been introduced in the House. H.R.3194 allows unauthorized immigrants, who've resided in the US for over a year, to identify themselves and undergo a background check. If there is no other criminal record, and after 5 years as law-abiding resident aliens, they are eligible for permanent resident status. The link has more details.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/3194

This is reasonable, sensible, and humane. And far superior to Donald Trump's pandering to prejudice, ignorance, and bigotry.
