  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign raised $361 million in August, more than triple what former President Donald Trump brought in and the most a presidential campaign has ever raised in a single month.
The campaign said it has $404 million in cash on hand, a total spread across the Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee and other joint fundraising committees.
Trump’s campaign announced Wednesday it raised $130 million in August and had $295 million cash on hand.
Wow! Lots of enthusiasm with this.

Never ending commercials? Just a wild guess. Robocalls? Snail mail blasts? Buying off big tech social media for favored treatment? Targeted cash gifts to voters in critical precincts? Vote harvesting? All of the above? Maybe more. They have the money now.

spending money on ads is "buying votes"? Same with Robocalls and snail mail. Robocalls are just annoying. It is not 'buying votes"
'Buying off big tech social media..." - sounds illegal

"Targeted case gifts to voters" - have any proof that occurs?
Ballot harvesting is just picking up the absentee ballot that was filled out by a legal voter and delivering it to a drop box. For instance, when I was caring for my mom in Michigan in 2020, I took her completed ballot to the drop box. It was legal. The senior center that she was in did deliver some ballots for residents who don't drive or have a family member to do it for them. It was legal.

The right cries about "vote harvesting" but it is legal to have someone else deliver the completed absentee ballot in Arizona. It was the bright idea of the Republicans there because they wanted all those Republican seniors to get their votes in.

Enthusiasm for sure.

But I feel sorry for swing state people who will be subjected to political garbage ads nonstop. I hope the campaign spend this money on get out the vote efforts.
Feel good for the people who work in media who get hired to produce those ads. The film business has been pretty rough for a while.

Is the Harris campaign sucking so many millions out of citizens supposed to be a cause for celebration? There are unscrupulous televangelists who make big bucks from the public as well. A cult of personality is supposed to be a bad thing.

Trump supporters know his campaign is being financially supported by someone who makes $361 million per hour.

lol, try again.

Former President Donald Trump raised $130 million last month, a haul built almost entirely by small-dollar donations, his campaign announced Wednesday

Hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign ads for us to have to look at, and yet she still can't tell us what her policies are.
At least she has her teleprompter script, but people are going to tire of that real quick.

Kamala Harris is not teleeveangelist nor is there a cult of personality regarding her.

It is good that so many are enthusiatic about her candidacy.

Musk still only has one vote no matter how much he donates..

How do we know the bulk is from many and not mainly just from a few wealthy contributors?

Exactly. Lots of money coming in doesn't necessarily mean lots of supporters.

Sites like Act Blue, which is for Democratic small donors, keep track. Male or Female? Whether they donated before. Amounts.

From the article in the OP:

Harris has raised more than $615 million for her campaign and associated Democratic committees since she took over the campaign from President Joe Biden on July 21, the campaign said. The August donations came from nearly 3 million donors, including 1.3 million donors who gave for the first time this cycle. Flaherty said that among those new donors, 3 in 4 had not given to Biden’s campaign during the 2020 presidential race.

Let's hope the new standard for who wins elections doesn't become, "Whoever has the most money wins the election".
If that's what happens this time, then Elon Musk must run in 2028. He could spend a few billion of his own money to fund his campaign, and could make Trump his VP pick.

How does that change what I said? Trump supporters know they don't need to contribute much money since he's being enthusiastically backed by Musk.

Considering how much Musk wants Trump to win, he might as well be running in 2024 as far as which campaign has the most money behind it.

Is that a good thing? This one guy is going to fund the whole thing? You know how that works, right? That one guy gets a lot of say in how your government runs. Let's just give them an oligarchy, then. In order to avoid "communism," let's put all the power in the hands of a few. I don't think you're being serious.
Does that mean whoever has made the biggest donation to the Harris campaign will have the most say in how the government runs if she wins? That's not really how it works is it? What do campaign dominations go towards? Buying citizens individual power in running the government? Or does it really just go towards advertising?

It's a clear sign the economy is doing well, since people have disposable cash.
Trump supporters know his campaign is being financially supported by someone who makes $361 million per hour.
Nobody in the world makes that much.

Yeah, that's exactly how it works. Politicians do for those that support them (with money-wink, wink).

I guess there are caps on how much one individual can give, as there should be. But just imagine thinking that's a good idea. There should be more limits on how much people can give.
