  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I already explained that. It has to do with the potential impact on the employees and workplace from illness.
So then why not a flu mandate too???

Like I said in post #86 -- Flu is a disease of young children and old people. It has minimal impact on employee availability. And some workplaces *DO* require flu shots.

Anyone can and does get the flu, a virus like Covid, so your reasoning is not sound. Flu also impacts work just as Covid does. So again, why not a federal mandate like Covid did??

Are you not reading the very short I answers I gave? I just told you.

Some workplaces *DO* require flu vaccines. These especially include medical facilities, schools and day cares, nursing and retirement homes.

Influenza is particularly hazardous to small children and the elderly.

COVID 19 had a much larger fatality rate on working-age people than influenza not to mention long term illness.

We've lived with annual flus and vaccines for decades and there generally haven't been vaccination mandates by employers outside of some specialized areas where there is a lot of contact with the very old or very young. Normal flu for workers is not noticeably different than various "cold" viruses for which we have no vaccines.

This is why employers (including the federal government) mandated COVID vaccinations for employees even when they don't do so for the annual flu shot.

Yes, we count the number of times Harris has changed on her position from 2019 when she was running for nomination.

Let us compare that to the number of times Trump has changed his position over the same time frame.

If we should ignore Trump's campaign statements, perhaps we should also ignore those of Harris.
=======
Let's ignore the nonsense.

We have a clear choice.

Looking at the positions of Harris in a 2019 campaign won't change that choice, for anyone.

I said SPECIFICALLY the Fed Gov...please pay attention. Covid has the same fatality to certain populations as a novel flu...elderly die, immune compromised die, etc. The problem here is the Covid was novel. The same thing would happen with a new flu like in 1918.

The federal government imposed a mandate on its employees to have a vaccination *AS AN EMPLOYER*. I don't know why this part is so hard to understand.

Yeah, who needs actual scientific studies when we can just collect anecdotes from random people?

Yeah, who needs actual scientific studies (funded by pharmaceutical companies with immense conflicts of interest) when you can just ask people if they've had COVID? I mean, I know countless people that have had COVID right after they got the vaccine. I'll bet most people do. But you go right on ahead and believe those Pharma-funded studies that tell you what is happening in real life isn't what's really happening.

I have asked it repeatedly above
I have repeatedly answered your question about why the federal government required its employees to have COVID vaccines and why COVID is more problem for most employers than the seasonal flu. I you think I haven't answered you question, restate it and I will reply.

I guess isolated anecdotes would be enough if the plan is simply to reinforce preconceived ideas of how things must be.

They're not so "isolated".

I mean, you do know that the original clinical trial data showed that more than 200 people had to be vaccinated to prevent a single infection, right? That means at least 199 people who get the vaccine would still get infected. Even Pfizer's own data showed just how poorly the vaccines prevent infections. "Breakthroughs", as they were called early in the pandemic, were never "rare". They were the norm. In fact, what was "rare" was getting the vaccine and not getting infected. But there was a media apparatus funded by Pharma that was more than happy to repeat their nonsense. It appears it worked, as there are still people that believe COVID vaccines prevent infections.

Would you care to document that? It is my recollection that the initial COVID vaccine was quite effective against the original "Wuhan" strain of the virus. Nearly as good as the measles vaccine and better (as I recall) than the flu vaccines. The effectiveness relative to other strains varied.

Flu vaccines are egg based (at least they used to be) with a strong humeral response...Covid used new tech with mRNA with just cellular response. Flu vaccines prevent transmission as well as are protective against the virus...the covid vaccine, we found out, did neither well...

Humeral response? What does the humerus have to do with this (or eggs).
Flu vaccines prevent transmission as well as are protective against the virus...the covid vaccine, we found out, did neither well...
Vaccines prevent transmission in the same way if they do at all, but not having the vaccinated person develop a viral load in the transmission mechanism. Unexpectedly, the original mRNA vaccines did suppress the development of viruses in the upper respiratory system such that transmission of the original strain was suppressed. They also stopped other infections.
