  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love reading about Legends as there is a lot of truth to most of them.

Here's one I found to be very interesting;

Immortal City

In Biblical Hebrew, “luz/לוז” means “almond” or “almond tree.” According to ancient legend, Luz was an interesting and important place:

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day [Judges 1:26]. It has been taught: That is the Luz in which they dye the blue [tekhelet];* that is the Luz against which Sennacherib marched without disturbing it,** against which Nebuchadnezzar marched without destroying it, and even the Angel of Death has no permission to pass through it, but when the old men there become tired of life they go outside the wall and then die.
–Babyonian Talmud, 46b

According to tradition there is a miniscule and indestructable bone at the upper part of the spine called the "luz" bone,

It has to do with the process of resurrection.

Human anatomy was part of my medical training. I've never heard of a "luz" bone. I suspect it refers to the Odontoid process (also known as the Dens), which is part of the 2nd cervical vertebra--AKA C2, or the Axis. It fits into the 1st cervical vertebra (C1) which is called the Atlas. An odontoid fracture can be serious, but is not necessarily fatal or disabling. And it certainly has nothing at all to do with religious legend or belief.

I do too. But the Sumerian epics are also fascinating. The Epic of Gilgamesh, Descent of Inanna, Inanna and Enki, Enūma Eliš and the one I find most interesting Ziusudra: a man well known for his humility and obedience. He did as the god Enki commanded and built a huge boat, in which he successfully rode out the flood designed to wipe out humanity.

In this instance tradition is wrong. There is no such bone.

I've just read up about it & the luz bone is also called the resurrection bone & it is impossible to destroy by fire, hammer or grinder, which is pretty amazing.

The special meal called Melaveh Malkah meaning "Escort", bidding farewell to the Shabbat Queen.(Saturday night)

The Luz is nourished from the Melaveh Malkah , feed it while you can.

Of course you have no part in this so it makes no difference what you say.

The Legend of the Sapphire Staff

The sapphires on the staff (called “Sephirot” on the Tree of Life) are said to contain all of the mystical teaching, showing us how to awaken our true humanity, live consciously and connect with the Divine. So when Adam and Eve ventured forth from the garden, they carried with them a complete representation of the Tree of Life in the form of a staff, providing them with all they needed to grow, thrive and have a meaningful life.

The Sapphire Staff was then passed down through the generations as a staff of knowledge, from Abraham to Isaac to Jacob and then to Joseph, who had become one of top advisors to the Egyptian Pharaoh. When Joseph died in Egypt, legend says that the staff was taken into the Egyptian palace and, generations later, taken by Jethro, the priest of Midian.

It is said that Jethro was walking in his garden one day when he plunged the staff into the ground. Then, when he tried to pull it out, he discovered that the staff had transformed into a tree, sprouted roots and was blooming.

From that time forward, no one could uproot the staff that had become a tree. It was said that the One who could easily take it would not only receive Jethro’s daughter in marriage, but would also be the redeemer of Israel.

And so the story goes that Moses, who was in the line of Abraham, came to the land of Jethro after fleeing Egypt in search of a new life. As Moses spent time with Jethro and his family, he was eager to marry Jethro’s daughter, Zipporah. Moses was therefore challenged to go into Jethro’s garden and attempt to uproot the Staff/Tree. This was quite an ordeal as all other suitors had been devoured by the Tree. Moses went to the Tree and easily pulled it out of the ground, thus winning Zipporah’s hand in marriage, reclaiming the great staff of knowledge and activating his destiny – to become redeemer of Israel.

Hmm ... Did Moses use this sapphire staff to part the Red Sea ?

Have not heard that version though Kabbalah is immense, it can also have a negative effect without a mentor, some have even gone insane.

Or so it goes.

Yes, but that is the reason why the Oral Torah/Oral tradition was written down, because as in so many cases a story about a feather can end

up as a hen.

The Rebbe preferred the Jerusalem Talmud over the Babylonian Talmud.

A Strange Story concerning Melchizedek -

Noah had a bother called 'Nir', Nir had a wife called 'Sopanim' who became pregnant in her old age.
She is embarrassed by this pregnancy and hides herself until the child is due. When Nir discovers she is pregnant he rebukes her and intends to send her away because she has disgraced him, but instead she falls dead at his feet.

Noah discovers this and tells Nir that the Lord has “covered up our scandal.” They bury Sopanim in a black shroud in a secret grave.
However the child was not dead and came out of the dead mother as a fully developed child. This terrifies Nir and Noah, but since the child is “glorious in appearance” they realize the Lord is renewing the priesthood in their bloodline. They name the child 'Melchizedek'.

Melchizedek is only with Nir for forty days, then the Lord instructs Arc Angel Michael to go and take the boy up to heaven. The Lord calls him 'My Child Melchizedek'.

The child is to be placed in Paradise forever. Nir is so grieved by the loss of his son. He also dies leaving no more priests in the world, allowing the world to become even more evil. Noah is therefore instructed to build the ark.

Who exactly?

A man was on his way to the palace, he longed to see the King and the crown jewels,

he came to a fork in the road, not knowing which path to take he asked a farmer who was working in his field.

The farmer directed him by saying,

"The path to the left is the short long way, the path to the right is the long short way."
